The smell of sweet chocolate is immediate and dutifully powerful. Small notes of roased coffee can be found among the striking flavor of chocolate truffel on the palate. The hopps finish it to help balance the sweet chocolate. This is a great stout with terrific chocolate flavor. carruthm (1187), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 11, 2008 I would put this Rogue beer on top of my favourite chocolate beers. Right along with Lost Coast Chocolate Porter.
The joy began right after opening the bottle. It pours a dark body and thick head that settled rather quickly.
Full body / chocolate smell is heavily present right after opening and in the glass. It has a nice smell that does not overtake the quality of the beer.
A very enjoyable beer, very smooth, full chocolate body, does not leave any bad aftertaste. A near perfect mix of chocolate malt and barley.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2008 Pours a cocoa colored brown with thin white head. Aroma dominated by chcolate malts roasted coffee and tostie rolls. Flavor once again dominated by chocolate and chocolate malts. Nice roasted character and hops provide a tasty bitter dry finish. Very Good! thenick (746), North Bellmore, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2008 Tap @ Blind Tiger. Pours a deep reddish-brown to almost black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate malt, almost to the point of chocolate milk. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate up front dissolving into dark chocolate bitterness with coffee and roasted malt notes barely detectable. A total winner. Beerman6686 (1313), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours black with a thick creamy chocolate colored head. Nose is intense chocolate and caramel but with a very rich smell of fine chocolate. Very distinct body with clear cut changes in palate. Starts of with a strong caramel malt note, very smooth, followed by a giant chocolate truffle middle and it finishes with a strong roasty malty bitterness of Mocha Java Coffee. Outstanding. And as stouts go this is an excellent one for beginners, its very sweet with pretty light bitterness yet a complex and well defined palate. Very well made by Rogue.
