After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Fatherís Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fatherís Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dadís Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.

Pours medium brown a finger khaki head, not much lacing. Roast malts and that Rogue hop and barley aroma. Burnt malt flavor, bitter hops, a bit of char. Taste gets better as it warms, bitter hop and burnt malts combine well as you go. Moderately pleasant aftertaste. Mouth feel is on the thicker side of thin, low carbonation. Mostly pleasant overall, tasty, but not great by any stretch.

Bottle. Pours dark with a little head. the aroma has a lot of malt to it. The taste is a little harsh and too much malt taste to it. Finishes a little bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not black at all, actually pours a muddy brown with a large tan foam head that is quite slow to dissipate. Smells of yeast, roasted malt, Barley and sweet hops. Real watery in texture and maybe a little carbonation. This mostly taste bitter, and not so much from the hops but rather the bitter roasted malt. Roasted malt bitterness overshadows, but combines with the hop bitterness to create a super bitter brew. All that being said anyone who knows my tastes would think Iíd like that, but it is too watery. The bitterness stays on the tongue and while the brew isnít smoky, it stays on the tongue like you licked campfire ashes.

Pours dark brown with a 2 finger, fluffy tan head that ahs great retention. Aroma is big on nuts, roast, some chocolate, pine and planty hops. Flavor is more roast and nuts, burnt chocolate chip cookies, dark caramel, earth, lots of pine, juniper like notes, planty finish. Medium body, with a creamy entry, and increasingly dry and harshly bitter until the end, light, but sharp carbonation. Not bad, the bitterness really sticks with you on the back of your palate, similar to other hoppy beers from Rogue. That definitely takes it down a couple of ticks.

Bottle. Cola brown pour, reddish hue, with a large light tan head. Aroma is faint and roasty. Flavor of roasted malt, light dry cocoa, pine, and sharply metallic bitterness. I m not sure why I bought this, the beer is underwhelming, but drinkable.
