Standard black IPA, which is not a bad thing cause this style is quite good. But compared to other black IPAís, this one does not stand out.

This is a fine IPA, medium golden dark in color, with a nice head. It is more balanced than a lot of IPAs, with a rich malt taste not overwhelmed by the intense hops. Medium to full bodied. Delightful.

Okay... Although it was a neat idea at first for screened label art, after a while the Rogue dude not only gets old but also starts to make me want to avoid the beers. Not good. Still, as often as not, Iím pleasantly surprised by the contents.
This was quite the happy bottle upon uncapping, erupting out the mouth of the bottle briefly. Once poured, a mostly black body with dark orange/red hues fills the
glass, topped by a light vlbrown head and notable lacing. Now... for the first test of a black IPA. The nose. Mostly sweet, roasted malts let loose with a possible presence of earthy, musky, complimentary hops. It passed the first test. No awkwardness. In the mouth it seems much like an India brown ale in hop flavor and malt body. I like that itís supple enough to support the malt flavors, and the hops were well controlled. A bitterness thatís due to both some roasted malts and hops finishes it out,
pleasantly. Thereís something a little spiced about its character, but likely just a product if the hop and malt combination. Not bad... Iíve had better, but Iíve had many much worse. Respectable for the style, itís a good pick if youíre in the odd mood for a black IPA.
