650ml bottle from Archive. Jet black with a nice thick creamy head. Not much aroma unfortunately. Not a huge fan of black IPAs, but I did enjoy this one on the recommendation of staff at Archive. Tastes of coffee and burnt toast, liked the heavy bitterness on the palate. Nice beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Jet black with a thin white head, strong malty aroma. Tastes much more like a stout than an IPA, just how I like it. Great beer!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle for 3 bucks. Pours black, opaque with a light tan head. Smells piney with chocolate and caramel malts as well. Has a slight coffee/malty taste with hop bitterness at the end. Not offensive but a little underwhelming. Smells better than it tastes. Body is medium. This is not a mindblowing IPA but for the price it’s pretty good. I wish it had a more robust taste though.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark brown with a finger of frothy tan head..
Nose is a definite coffee aroma, a bit of sweetness from the malt and some orange and pine from the hops..
Attack is coffee and then boatloads of piney, grapefruity hops through the mid palate and the finish. I was expecting some of the malt character to come through more as it warmed, but this is really a hop bomb. .
Medium bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Carbonation is fine..
There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s definitely black and it’s definitely an IPA, but what I feel it’s lacking is the balance between hops and malt that usually comes in a black IPA. It’s very hop forward, and thats fine, but I have regular IPAs for that.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
From a 650ml bottle on 15/9/2013. Pours a very dark brown with a big, lasting head. The aroma features caramel malt and floral hops. The flavour starts out with chocolate, coffee, caramel, nutty and roasted notes, which is followed by some sweet dark and sweet and sour citrus fruit. But bitterness is the dominant feature here - big, resiny and lingering, with lots of grapefruit evident. Has a medium body and medium carbonation. A really good, very hoppy black IPA.

I know what I'm supposed to smell by reading the ingredients but this flu has the best of me. Caramel head, black body, starting to get spice on the nose and..... I'm going to stop trying to smell anything I just snorted it. first taste, bitters are amazing, nice and smooth, nose is back and getting coffee hints. Not too sweet good after drys. The bitters are strong but that's what you be looking for. Double ipa cross stout I'd say.

Very mild Brown Ale aroma. Pours like Coca Cola. Initial mouthfeel got my hopes up but it quickly dies out, leaving a lingering, mostly unpleasant metallic bitterness. Was hoping for a lot more from this. Very heavy and boozy.

I nice dark IPA on a rainy autumn evening. Dark and hoppy with a hint of flowers (rose water) perhaps, at first just a little off-putting but the longer i drank it the more i liked it.
