Dark brown colour. First sniff was all chocolate without a lot of hop aroma. On the palate the hops came through a bit more but still a chocolate flavour dominated. Not to say this is a bad thing, I was probably expecting a bit more hop character.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large light beige head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. The aroma has fruity notes of apricot and plum, with some bitter coffee and cocoa. Strong kiwifruit and grapefruit hops up front lead nicely into a blend of bitter espresso and smooth chocolate in the mid-palate. Grapefruit hops and bittersweet dark chocolate make up the finish. This is a nice, satisfyingly bitter black IPA.

From 650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark (though clear) mahogany brown with just some bronze highlights at the very edge. Large and lasting cappuccino coloured head. Aromas are pine, chocolate, grapefruit, burnt caramel and a hint of smoke. The taste starts off with rich roasted malt before a hit of piney hop bitterness in the mid-palate. That bitterness slides away to gentler coffee and chocolate with a bit of citrus zing. Spice and coffee aftertaste. Awesome.

A hoppy porter? Coffee chocolate citrus, got it all. Pitch black creamy head, looks awesome. Good light malt, hops balance well. Wee heavy.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours deep brown with a creamy head. Hops are primarily fruity with some citrus and light flowers backing up. Also, coffee, roast, and burnt chocolate, caramels and some bread in the nose. Flavor is roasty, with mild hops. Finishes roasty and dry with some lingering bitterness. Not bad. not overly hop forward.

650ml bottle from Archive. Jet black with a nice thick creamy head. Not much aroma unfortunately. Not a huge fan of black IPAs, but I did enjoy this one on the recommendation of staff at Archive. Tastes of coffee and burnt toast, liked the heavy bitterness on the palate. Nice beer.

Jet black with a thin white head, strong malty aroma. Tastes much more like a stout than an IPA, just how I like it. Great beer!
