COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Fatherís Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fatherís Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dadís Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.

22 oz Bottle. Pours midnight black with a cocoa head. Aroma notes are reminiscent of baltic porter; spice, burnt sugar, anise. Big shot of hops, licorice and smoke in the flavor. An all around "big" beer.

I was hoping for more from this one. Rogue is usually a good go-to for me for any style but this sort of let me down. Not bad by any means but not great. It pours a very dark brown with dark red highlights and a foamy light tan head. Caramel, whole wheat bread and burnt toffee followed by herbal and spicy hops comprise the nose. This starts off pretty smooth, very malt forward and even a bit sweet but then transitions to a very bitter, unbalanced feeling, borderline astringent flavour. I love this style of beer but if it werenít for the strong malt backbone this might be too much hop-wise. Mid-soft carbonation with a medium body that is very lightly oily. Increasingly bitter finishes starts with dark coffee and ends with raw cocoa.

Pours a fairly clear but dark brown/light black colour with a darker head and good lace. The aroma is stewed fruit with pepper spice that mix well with caramel, light choclate, light roast and finishes with a hoppy resinous note. On the palate it is medium to full bodied, sports a burnt toast and hoppy bitterness on the finish and I get flavours of caramel and malts in the mid palate. Decent length makes this a pretty darn good beer.

Bottle from LCBO. Dark fruit and roasty spice aroma. Spice and roasted grains dominate the taste, with fruity bitter hops in the finish. Full body. Nice.

Pours a very dark almost black amber color with a tan head that leaves a little lacing. Chocolate and roasted malt nose. Good malty backbone with a hoppy bite at the end, bit of mocha and currant in the flavor as well. Decent black IPA.

Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance Ė The beer is served a nearly pitch black color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head fades over a moderate amount of time leaving a rather decent level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell Ė The aroma is a nice blend of roast and hop with a rather strong showing of a both citrus and pine hops. The roast has with it some aromas of chocolate and caramel as well as a little bit of sweet caramel, which overall produces a nice hoped and roasted blend. Taste Ė The taste begins with a heavy roasted malt taste along with a decent showing of some pine hop and a little bit of a grapefruit taste. At the start there is a little bit of a chocolate flavor which ends up dwindling as the taste moves on further to the end. While the chocolate fades, a little bit of a coffee flavor and more roast take its place. More hop flavors of both an earthy and more grapefruit flavor join the taste profile more toward the end, and mix with the rest of the flavors as well as a newly arrived light cola like taste, to leave a rather crisp and decently mixed hop flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel Ė The body of the beer is on thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. The feel was a little off for me with a lower carbonation level and thicker body likely better accentuating the roasted and hopped flavors of the brew. Overall Ė A rather decent black IPA, but nothing all that exceptional overall. A nice one to try, but really not worth the added price of the bomber or on tap in comparison to some of the other black IPAís out there in 12 oz-ers

Poured from a bomber with no bottling date on it. Aroma - Roasty - dark chocolate - some malt, but not getting a lot of hop aroma. Appearance - black at night...small finger of head - decent lacing Palate - nice lingering affect. Definitely a bite at the end of the tongue and a nice lingering taste. Overall - Good beer, tastes kinda like a stout almost..not overly hoppy but a solid beer.
