COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Fatherís Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fatherís Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dadís Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.

22 oz Bottle. Pours midnight black with a cocoa head. Aroma notes are reminiscent of baltic porter; spice, burnt sugar, anise. Big shot of hops, licorice and smoke in the flavor. An all around "big" beer.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with two fingers of dense tan head that lingers over five minutes leaving a thick lacing. Aroma: Molasses, syrop, malt, caramel, smoke. Flavours: Molasses, pine resin, hops, burnt malt, some coffee and coca. Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall: A wonderful Black IPA with many aromas and flavours. Each time I take another sip, I come across new flavours.

Pours a very dark black with reddish highlights around the edges when back lit. Nice, slightly off-white head leaving considerable lacing behind. On the nose, some chocolate, toffee, some pine, and quite a bit of tea leaves. The mouthfeel is leaning towards thick and sticky. Tastes are of pine, coffee, red grapes, Overall, the abv is prevalent and youíll start to feel it after drinking only a couple of fingers. Still, drinks very easy for the style. This is another nice offering from Rogue.

Alpha10 (331) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 11, 2014
2014/09/11 - Pours an opaque, dark brown-mahogany colour with a foamy, khaki head that slowly reduces to a linger surface film and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is mild pine, molasses, cocoa, coffee, toffee, earthy hops and toasted malt. Taste is similar to nose; semi sweet cocoa, toffee, molasses, coffee, toasted malt and mild pine with earthy hop tones. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation and a long, mildly bitter, drying finish. A little less hop forward on the taste than I had expected, but still not a bad brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark, orange-tinged, brown with large, creamy light tan head. Aroma is full of licorice, with some roast and light hoppiness. Flavour is big anise with roasted malt and mellow resiny hoppiness. Mellow roasty bitterness in finish. Not all that hoppy, but decent.

(Bottle) Clear dark brown with red hints. Big dense long-lived tan head. Pleasant aroma of toasted malt, nuts and a hint of chocolate and some pine. Excellent palate: medium bodied with bright carbonation and some surprising stickiness in the finish. Well balanced assertive tastes - dark malt, burnt toffee, some elusive sweetness, hints of smokey wood, with some fairly serious hoppy bitterness that develops from the mid palate into quite an aggressive finish. Overall a impressive beer with some pretty assertive flavours doing a fine balancing act.

650ml bottle. Pours a dark, dark clear ruby with a mocha coloured head. Molasses, caramel, coffee, cocoa, with both resinous and tropical fruit heavy hops on the nose. Smells SO much like black IPAís of the past Iíve loved. However, it kind of falls flat taste-wise. Thinner bodied than the nose would lead you to believe, the "black" comes through pretty tasty. Molasses, black licorice, light ash, black coffee, and lots of roasty malt. The hops however are slightly harsh. I wish they reflected the nose, but instead you get light resinous notes, and big bitter metallic/Fishermanís Friends notes. Itís still good, but itís a little disappointing.

Poured from a bottle opaque, black thin tan head that laces the glass. Burnt roasted malt aroma with some coffee and caramel, flavor has mor of the same with a firm clean bitterness and some astringency from the roast. Feels more like a robust Porter than black IPA.
