COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Father’s Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance. Dad’s Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt. Solid and well balanced for the style. Almost a hoppy porter. Thinnish body, roasted malt, chocolate and a soft bitter finish. Solid as always from Rogue but certainly not on repeat playlist.

pours a deep chestnut brown .. nice sized head, lacing is great .. . deep tar, burnt toast, and chewy oatmeal that sat in the pantry for a few years .. . mild mouth, light chocolatey strange aftertaste .. . decent beer .. . . old man is creepy..

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with red highlights. Tall frothy tan head. Tons of thick sticky lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, roasted malts, and hops. Tangy hop bitterness with a sweet roasted malt backbone. A little light for a black ipa. Expected a bit more hops and rich flavors. Enjoyable nonetheless. Happy Father’s Day 2013.

Pours dark brown/black with a off white head. Smells like pine, grass, and brown sugar. Taste follows the aromas. Good stuff.

On tap at the bocktown. Big and black with a lighter alabaster head. Ever so slight ipa aroma. Hoppy and astringent from the start. A bitter black beer. Mouth coating and not impressed. Could be better behaved, a little crude. Rather rude and lmost obnoxious. Barely any co2, long bitter finish tht lasted an hour.

22oz bomber. Pours a dark brown color with a light tan foamy head. Aroma is roasty with some strong pine and citrus notes. Taste is of pine, citrus, and a strong burnt toast maltiness.

Tap at yard house at marina del ray. Didn’t order this, trying a friend’s beer. Don’t pay for Rogue. Bigger mocha foam on dark near black pour. Good lacing. Served ice fucking cold. Nose is gamey, tootsie roll, Taste is Suddy, soapy, quite bitter. Chalkier, dirty soil mouthfeel. Intense earthy pine bitterness.

22oz bottle served into a SA perfect pint. A - Pours dark brown with 1.5 fingers of rocky light tan head. The head retains very well and livens up to 1/2 an inch when swirled. S - Citrus hops, roasted grains, nutty yeast, cocoa. T - Aggressively bitter upfront with heavy roast and citrus rind. Some burnt cocoa in the background, the bitterness grows with more of a charred roast aspect. Finishes roasted with heavy grapefruit and bitterness covering the palate. M - Moderate carbonation lightens the body to medium. This was better than I expected. Aggressively hopped with plenty of roast and char character. Not the total package but very fun to drink. 22oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a big fluffy white head. Mild aroma of sweet malt and just a hint of hop presence. Lightly bitter flavor. A very smooth and easy to drink Enjoyable and simple - just not super exciting.
