COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Fatherís Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fatherís Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance. Dadís Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt. Iím still not 100% sold on the black IPA style, but this is one of the better examples that Iíve had so far. The balance is almost there - still very hoppy and similar to a double IPA. Decent aroma. Pretty good roasted malt flavor, which stays in the background behind all those bitter hops.

Two girls, one of them defining the terrible twos, beer, good beer, is this dadís little helper. So Iím looking forward to this Rogue brew. The beer pours a dark as dark as the 2, then 3, then 4 oíclock visits to calm each kid in the wee hours. Dirty-knee coloured tan head. A nose that picks ... lovely caramel malts and a little chocolate, not getting hops though, huh. Taste like perfumed (what Iíll be smelling way too often in a house dull of girls) hops, roasted malts, some bitter aftertaste. Good beer.

Appearance was hazy opaque with lasting tannish creamy 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are roasted barley, cocoa, chocolate, earthy hops. Taste are chocolate, coffee, dark roasty malts and earthy, leathery, pine bitter backend. Palate was creamy smooth CO2 with medium body, then lasting astrigent bitter finish. A bit unbalanced for me.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark mahogany pour with a one finger tan head that fades quite slowly and clings to the glass. Nose is strong toffee and roasted malt with coffee and bitter chocolate and a light pine backing. Bitter from start to finish. Medium creamy with medium soft carbonation. NIce BIPA

650 ml bomber. Pour black with a fairly sticky tan coloured head. The nose is really hoppy. Heavy roast and a little bit of pine and resin. The body is medium with some sticky resin and a little bit of coffee as well. Itís got some earthiness to it. It brightens a bit as it starts to warm up. Dry roast along with an assertive bitterness. Warming amplifies the mid-palate malt profile - thereís quite a bit of caramel and toasted malt there. Itís pretty nice.

A nose of roasted malts, caramel, and bread, with a hint of hop presence. A translucent mahogny hue with a nice tan ring and nominal lacing set the stage for a malt forward taste experience. Roasted malts, caramel/toffe notes, and black coffee bitterness that lingers long into the aftertaste. A smattering of pine/resin/tropical fruit are also represented. I like the balance. Medium body and medium carbonatin. Crisp dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a robust, malt dominated BIPA that goes down easy and can be enjoyed on a warm Texas evening.

Beautiful black color with a beautiful foam. The scent of dark chocolate. The flavor of roasted malteog dark chocolate.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Dark brown pour with ruby red hues building up to a modest tan head. The aroma has a kind of dark malt earthy hop character to it. Raisins maybe. The body is around medium. The taste has an oily malty feel to it with a modest bitterness but not a really hopped up finish. Astringent. Eh, not a fantastic Rogue offering but not bad.
