This is a great slow beer, possibly am example of American brewers pushing it too far but rich, complex and tasty nonetheless. Drank from a longneck but would prefer to try on tap. A very good beer but not for everyone.

Bottle from Dan Murphy. Cola-black, thick, creamy head, roasty, malt aroma, really dry bitterness in the mouth, cocoa, coffee, cigar ash, pine resin, full body. Nice!

Had this on draft at Pour House. Almost black pour. Off white head. Nutty bitter choclate cocoa taste. But off. Not a fan. Expected much better out of this

Bomber into a giant weihenstephan glass, pours a midnight black, thick magic marker resemblance, head is bountiful, large, frothy, and light. Foam shows a caramel glaze in the lacing that coats all over the glass and hangs out awhile Aroma is malt based hoppy, grainy, soapy, dry citrus, and bold cascade hops. Taste is black lager like, deep roasty malts, coco, barely, rasin, black licorice, and boozy black hops. A full bodied and bold beer here, the black lager qualities shine more to me than the black ipa additions. but the intake goes down fresh, crisp, and glacier like smoothness. A nice take on this type. But maybe was expecting a bit more full frontal hop explosion coming from Rogue. I forgot this was rogue for a bit, very similar to the otter creek black ipa.

Black, Ruby color with nice creamy head. Nice, balanced aroma. Roasted malts, smooth coffee and chocolate mixed with american hops (citrus, smooth pines, flowers). Bitter taste, full of hops, citrus, resins connected with coffee and chocolate. Really taste. Creamy, velvet mouthfeel. Medium body, medium carbonation. Very good Cascadian Dark Ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Very dark red brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma of toast, oranges, caramel, licorice, chocolate. Fairly light bodied, medium carbonation. A little sweet with chocolate, mild roast; oranges and a little pine, moderate bitterness with some spices. No particular finish, just kind of fades, but what gradually departs is pleasant. Pretty good but forgettable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed from notes. She pours a gentle black and leaves the same colored body with a foamy white half finger head that lasts for a good minute. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen and some light lacing shows around the sides of the glass. The smell has the hops up front, pretty powerful, but not overbearing. Some roasty coffee notes are there as well. The taste centers around the hops with the same roasty coffee notes coming back. Malts come out a bit more in the taste. There is a slight dry aftertaste too. On the palate, she sits about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, and comes across fairly sessionable. Overall, this is a good black ale, much recommended to the hophead out there since more hops come out in this compared to other black ales Iíve had.
