"This ain't your Dad's malt liquor" - Brewmaster John Maier After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise 6 young children alone. Bottle: The day after Father’s Day, I decided to partake of a little help. Clear gold with a small white fizzy head along with spotty lacing is first noticed. The aroma is sweet grain, corn and most things I hate about cheap beer. The taste is all malt with a crisp, somewhat sweet finish. The aftertaste is not something I want to continue, so I am glad I shared most of it with my lovely wife and will try something else immediately, if not sooner.

While this beer is not exactly my cup of tea in terms of beer style, I did feel it to be better than its average score would indicate. While it looks like a better-than-average lager in appearance (I thought Leinie’s Northwoods) this beer is a bit maibock-ish in its character with a lot of complicated maltiness that is not overly sweet. And I found it to be somewhat balanced with a detectable hop presence. Not bad, but I’m not crossing anything on my list of things to do in life as a result of drinking this beer.

Bottle at Mondial 2007.
Crisp clean deep gold lager with decent bright white top.
Aroma: Earthy, grainy lager, sweet Mocne like brew with low hop profile.
Medium bodied, with malty off fruity character. Lacking crispness and smoothness. Rough off like finish. Grainy front but that all good there is. A bit off like

Hazy yellow body with a small white head. Sweet grainy malt aroma is muted. Sweet dilute malt flavour, with industrial flavours of corn - malt that ruins some of the more pleasant notes. Average palate is more full than it has any right to be. Let us never speak of this again.

Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & jerc -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a small diminishing foamy white head. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, grain and corn -- I’ve definitely smelt much worse. Flavour’s sweet and sugary along with some sulfur, corn and alcohol. Average bodied. For a Malt Liquor this is actually O.K.

Shared with blankboy, Hogtown Harry, GregClow and jerc, Harry’s bottle. Medium yellow, frothy white head. Fruity aroma, sort of sulphur as well. Taste - pretty much 0 impression - very very watery, corn, no aftertaste. Why? At least make it interesting...

Tap at Rogue/Brewers on the Bay. Pours a yellow-ish gold, pretty clear. Aroma of honey, sugar, light corn and a candy-like (Jolly Rancher?) fruit element. Very sweet and surprisingly full of flavor. Sugar, corn, maple and potato bread with a very clean and mild finish. Lingering sweet aftertaste which I wouldn’t expect from Rogue, even in the context of malt liquor. I wouldn’t call this beer thin, but it wasn’t creamy enough for the abundance of flavor. Overall, I was surprised that I liked this as much as I did.

Have you ever licked the statue of liberty. Or the roof of the Minneapolis City Hall? I think when some one brewed this beer they dropped a few pennies in for good luck. Kachow-yuck! next time I’m just drinking mercury. Looking at all the beers brewed by rogue I figured they are bound to have some gone wrong, But why did I have to drink it?
