Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Nov 25, 2006 I had to have just one more for the evening.Nice golden color, small white head that had a decent hang time then fades slowly to leave a bit of lace behind. The aroma was mildly malty with some corn and mild hops. The flavor was not as bad as some ML’s i’ve had, malty and corny taste with a nice not over the top icky feel like some others and a mild but decent hop showing in the end.Pretty smooth brew all around and one i could definatley get used to having more often,Dad really like. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 22, 2006 Like my friend nick76 said, this is the best malt liquor that I have ever had, Although it has the corn tasting adjuncts, its got a great amount of hops and malts. a buttery taste.
Quite outstanding nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 22, 2006 Updated: Nov 23, 2006The aroma is lighter on the alcohol than I expected but thats not a bad thing. It has mostly cereal malt. The appearance is orange gold with a small head. The flavor is very malty and not nasty like most of this style. The palate is smooth and well carbonated. This is the best malt liquor I have had to date. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Nov 9, 2006 22oz bottle-pours medium yellow with a small fizzy white head. looks like a true malt liquor. nose is sweet, lightly pheonlic with nots of plastic. Flavors show the sweetness, alcohol kick, and husky grain notes. this palate is pretty big, no wonder, its 7.2%. quite a bit of burn on the finish with aformentioned alcohol and adjunct. damn true to the style, but definately not a great beer. definately worth the try though. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Nov 5, 2006 This is probably the first malt liqour I’ve actually rated. I used to drink some Mickey’s malt liqour back in college, but that was probably the only other malt liqour I’ve drank before. I shoulda had a paper bag, some pork rinds, maybe rap music, but I just decided to rate it straight up, boyz. Pours a golden lager gold color, with an average white head. Interesting bubble patterns on my stella artois glass, which came in a belgian glass gift set my wife recently got me for my birthday. Aroma is sweet, pear, honey, corn. Taste is actually decent. Better than expected. I think Rogue does a decent job on this style. I would like to see how this matches up with DFH. Wouldn’t seek this out on a regular basis but that is more due to the style than anything else. For what it is, it was refreshing. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2006 Pours clear and golden. Less than a minute there was virtually no head remaining. Just out of the frig there was zero aroma. As it warmed toward room temp some sweet malt became apparent. Sweet syrupy malt flavor with some corn. There is just a hint of hop bitterness. Probably a pretty good brew for a hot summer day. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Oct 29, 2006 This was an interesting experience for me. My first malt liquor made by a very reputable brewer. Normally this style is known for being exceptionally disgusting, and generally an excuse to package jet fuel and sell it to junkies looking for a cheap drunk. Yes, malt liquor is generally shit beer. So was this any different? Did Rogue finally allow me to see this style in a different light? Yes and no. I would say that this beer was certainly well crafted in the sense that it didn’t have any of the harsh alcohol and otherwise empty sugary palate that most have. The aroma wasn’t off-putting either- - corn syrup and pear juice was a little odd, but not horrible. I didn’t get any stinky sewage corn adjunct stench that a couple of other raters found. The flavour was mostly corn syrup malt, but there was an astringent bitterness in the finish that kept it from becoming cloying. The alcohol was barely evident in the palate. I didn’t find this appalling as several other raters did, but neither did I enjoy it all that much. Definitely my least favourite of the Rogue range so far, and not one I’d come back to. However, it did prove that not all malt liquor has to be jet fuel. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 28, 2006 I don’t know what happened to my rating of this... but here goes again. Poured a clear, medium orange with a short-lived cap of white head. Nose was above all else sweet.. with a pleasant corn husk and sourdough bread/cookie dough malt presence... impressive. Flavor wasn’t far behind, with corn and tacky bread at the base... alcohol was mild and complimentary at the back end. Carbonation was a bit on the high side... hints of creaminess... very good malt likka!
