cheapdark (1900), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 9, 2007 Updated: Mar 14, 2008 On tap at the mad Mexican in Robinson. As a father, I have plenty of respect for the name of this brew. There has undoubtedly much thought put into this brew and it is one of the most refined beers I’ve the chance of tastin’. Malt liquor is a vile kenard for this brew. Surprising aroma of apples and berries. Looks like the every day pale yellow american lager beer. Initial flavor is rather astonishing! Wine like, but not syrupy sweet, more like a quality aged wine. Very little detectable bitterness. No carbonation. Fruity yet not exceptionally sweet. At first this brew has an alky impact but that morphs into A more mild watered added wine finish. Hey, I think my taste buds are going numb! An interesting brew that makes me wonder if this is really a beer or not. As a lowly lager lover, this is just not quite the malt liquor style, I’m sorry. If you like wine, give this a try. I am very glad to have had the chance to taste this beer. The waitress was very friendly. She commented that many lager drinkers don’t care for this brew. I am ashamed to name the other malt liquors I’ve tried but let me tell you, this brew is in a class of it’s own and it is in no way associated or similar to those unmentionable unrefined brews. Over all the most enjoyable malt liquor I’ve ever tasted, but that is not saying much. No other malt liquor, that I have rated, has got over a 1.8.
shigadeyo (1695), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jul 1, 2009 6/25/2009: Rogue Dad’s Little Helper pours out as a clear, pale golden yellow liquid with a thin, foamy beige head. The beer smells moderately sweet and lightly malty as well as slightly dry with a tinge of a buttery quality to it. Sugary vanilla and caramel dominate the flavor. It is slightly reminiscent of a beer infused cream soda or something... Anyways, it is soft and smooth and very easy to drink. It is definitely not a typical malt liquor!
22 fl. oz. bottle from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #346 for this beer.
AskForJenny (554), Ontario, New York, USA Jun 30, 2009 22oz - Father’s Day gift. Nice brass colored liquid, white head, nice lace. Noce hinted at too much sweetness, which is what I found on palate. Distracted from the malt. Good, not great. Cletus (4314), Connecticut, USA Jun 26, 2009 Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells and tastes of corn and rice with a skunky finish. danielcurtis81 (597), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2009 Bottle on Father’s day (although I am not). Pours a bright crystal gold with some bubbles. Light malts and corn with a faint hint of creamy vanilla. A light refreshing beer. edfitz (113), Toledo, Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2009 Very light in color, filtered. Strong foamy head. A little sweet with a strong aftertaste. Sneaky alcohol content, but probably nothing I would buy again. CheersMate1 (608), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 20, 2009 Nice looking lager. Jeez, good thing I rated this before I got drunk tonight. Nice fluffy head with a gold and slight copper "glow" to it. Looks pretty good. Fluffy head stays around, even after a few minutes. Slight corn with a slight sweet malt aroma as well. Not a very promising aroma, but slightly pungent. Very creamy I must say. Tastes of sweet malt. It is not as offensive as the Hurricane or other malt liquors. A little more tolerable I must say. I have never been a fan of the malt liquors, but this one is atleast mildly tolerable. SFLpunk (132), South Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 15, 2009 22oz brown glass pry-top. No date.
Appearance: Poured with some sudsy white head that faded rather quickly. Hazy yellow.
Nose: Smells like over-worked pale malt, a light citrus note and something like cotton.
Palate: Rather large body for the style with decent mouthfeel that quickly gives way to malt-liquor corn-beer flavors. Crisp and moderately clean, but sweet underneath the drying carbonation.
Notes: Meh, it’s malt liquor. Is it better than Colt 45, yes. Do I really want to pay that much more for this instead of Colt 45 if I want malt liquor? No. Good gift for Dad’s day, other than that, not impressed. Vertical Bacon Strips (581), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 7, 2009 Oh man...flashbacks of 40oz chug and ralphfests...probally some Big Bear or Extra Old Stock Strong in the giant bottles with the wide mouth top for quick chugging and out-of-this-world hangovers. Very clear dirty orange and a quick fizz head, this sucker keeps fizzing non stop. Zero head in seconds so it appears flat. Smells like your mom’s nailpolish, not mine. Malts. Sweaty and not good, but, compared to any other malt liquor out there (with the exception being Extra Old Stock) this might be the best smelling malt liquor around. Smells better and softer after a while. I can feel the headache comming already. I’ve also been debating at what point I’m going to sink this stuff. Strong lagers are never good unless you live inside a dumpster and you’ve found a small fortune of bent pennies and nickels in various parking lots and gutters. Taste is fairly clean, malty and a large ammount of noticable alcohol, but it’s still consummable without grimacing. Slightly sour yeast. Pretty straight forward. Mouthfeel is excellent. Light bodied, fairly smooth with a lack of overcarbonation (thank God), sour harsh bitter finish, but not in a bad way. Look, it’s Rogue so you expect quality and quality has been found here. This needs to be in 12 bottles though. No unwashed indian will steal 7.49$ to drink this. They’d spend it on 3 or 4 cans of Olympia instead. Specially made for sofisticated alcoholics like us. Never again. If I want to drink to get drunk, I’ll violate a bottle of La Fin Du Monde for the same price. If I was to compare this against other beers of its style, this may get five 10’s, and normally I would and I probally should, but this is malt liquor - the toilet of the industry. So I can’t. A re-review with the five 10’s will come when the Edmonton crew does the now pending 40oz tasting challange constisting of nameless bottles in brown paper bags.
