Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Draft. Pours clear amber with no head (for my pour anyway- I’m not sure how so many others are getting such a thick head on this one). Aroma of hops, toffee, malt. Flavor is busy, with hops, toffee, malt, wheat, citrus, and spice, and both bitter and sweet. Medium body. A lot of fun to drink because it has a lot going on.

Light, hazy amber, big frothy beige head with good retention. The pale malt aroma has an unmistakable edge of peanut butter, interesting but not really desirable to me. Flavors are a strongly floral on top of a big, honey-bread dough-nougat malty mess. Other contributing flavors are nut, mandarin orange, dust, and a bit of papery oxidation at the end. There’s a lot of flavor going on, but it doesn’t work together for me. Full bodied, somewhat sticky mouthfeel.

(35.5cl bottle) Hazy, deep golden colour with a thick off-white foamy head. Sweet and bready cara-malty aroma with a distinctive touch of biscuits and butterscotch. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Robust pale and cara-malty base with liquid biscuits; sweet and malt-accented finish with a whiff of herbal and resiny hops. Hearty pale Bock, just a tad on the sweet side (11.VIII.09).

This is a tasty, yet bitter beer. I’m not much for overly bitter beers, so I likely wouldn’t enjoy having more than one of these at a time. It was fairly tasty though.

A nicely complex ale. Poured a reddish gold with a foamy head, which faded in minutes. Smelled of sweet malts. The taste was dynamic, ringing with traces of honey, molasses, and bread. Very smooth with a mildly yeasty afteraste. I enjoyed drinking this beer very much.

A very pleasant beer, malty but balanced. Gorgeous deep amber color. Honestly, this page is the first time I thought of it as maibock; I’d always thought of it as a slightly underhopped pale ale.

This was a really swell beer to drink but I confess to having bought it from the label alone; I’d not heard of Rogue until this one. The colour was a hazy dark red and the reasonably-sized head stuck around for a fair while. Aroma was nice and malty, as was the taste. Enjoyed it a lot.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful deep amber with a white head that doesn’t last too long but leaves good lacing. The aroma is quite light but the taste is lovely and complex. The hops stand out, as with a lot of Rogue ales, but there are subtle hints of honey, oak and citrus. Great label too.
