Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Pale amber, off white head. Smelled so fine; very malty, molasses, burnt honey, bread crust. To me this tasted like the smell of a proper sour-dough mother, with a grassy afternote. It was very well balanced, easy going, could drink alot of this. Very interesting.

12oz bottle:: poured orange with nice head and good carbination. Smelled of hops with a brown sugur, carmel malt smell. Nice smooth flavor with slightly bitter end. The carmel flavors also lasts. Pretty good.

pours up with a thick foamy white head that dissipates over a couple minutes. pure amber colour with light to moderate carbonation. aroma is malty with some grassy hops and a touch of bready yeast. tatse really follows through with the hoppiness. accents of grassy, floral hops throughout the mid palate and providing the bitter on the back. malts provide a sweetness throughout, but are unbalanced with respect to the hops. a great, widely available session ale!

bottled, nice medium copper pour with mod/high carbonation with thick white head, floral hop aroma with the slightest malt back ground, medium body with full hop flavors and higher then expected bitters with hidden sweet malt notes, residual hop acids on palate

At Oregon Brewer’s Festival 2009 this was one of my top 3 favorites - about a 4.9. I’d tried it several year’s ago in a bottle and thought it was about a 3 to 3.5. Then more recently I tried it on tap at Rogue’s location in the Pearl District and it tasted horrible (like a bad Pabst Blue Ribbon wannabe) - 1.0 to 1.5 (nothing at all similar to the way it tasted at the brewfest). My advice on this one is to only buy it on tap & always insist on a sample first!

Bouteille @ SAQ, cuivrée rouge sur le bord de brun. Gazéification médium, le col tiens bien le verre et dure longtemps. Des notes de caramel, une rondeur invitante, des saveurs intéressantes de houblon viennent envelopper le tout.

Poured a reddish orange copper. Nice hop flavor with a dry finish...left wanting more!
