COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

650 ml bottle from A Tutta Birra. Served into a snifter. Pours a beautiful looking cloudy bright orange with a nice big off white head, moderate lacing. Very floral aroma from the hops, some caramel, bubblegum and bready malts.Medium body, nice carbonation, dry and oily texture. This is my first heller bock so I don’t really know the standards, but flavour wise, it is very similar to an IPA with a much more aggressive malt profile. I like it a lot, Rogue never disappoint!

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2011 Bottle: copper orange with a nice off white head. It has a malty sweet aroma with a florally hop aroma. Flavor wise, it has a great bitterness, that is balanced out just enough by the maltiness and a lively carbonation.

In bottle. Pours a beautiful glowing red - orange colour with a fair beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and treacle. Nice silky mouth-feel. Caramel flavour again with some pepper and moderate carbonation. Has some of the metallic finish I would expect for this style, however, more caramel and toffee lingering flavours. Not bad, interesting take on the style.

Bottle @ home. Burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Light caramel malty, noble hoppy, light lager nose. Well carbonated. Light caramel malty later, moderately noble hoppy flavor. Malty, rich bock aftertaste. Nice session beer.

Hoppy aroma has some herbs and sweet, aged fruits. Flavour has also aged fruits with some herbs and honey. Pretty far from a bock, but good!

On tap at the Dancing Cat Saloon in Bethel, NY. Pours a gold color with a soft short lasting white head. Aroma is heavy malt and sweetness. Taste is not so intense as the German versions. Taste is caramel and butterscotch. Palate is mellow and nice but the beer is a little unbalanced. But still nice.

On tap at the Nook. Pours a dark gold color with a medium, thick, off-white head and lots of nice lacing. The aroma is apples, bread, pine and earthy hops, and light spices. The flavor is sweet up front, with a noticeable spicy hop taste in the middle and finish. The palate is medium to heavy, lively carbonation, and a little clingy and astringent. Pleasant bitter aftertaste. Complex and reasonably drinkable. A good beer.
