3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 steadyj (69) - Kentucky, USA - JUL 10, 2011
Pours a slightly cloudy copper color with a fat white head. Medium bodied brew. Nose is caramel malt and sweet dark fruit. Caramel and breaded malt in the taste with moderate sweetness. Hops take a backseat in this one, though they are there. A rather mild beer in my opinion, but not exactly a bad thing.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Maris (466) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUL 8, 2011
From a 355ml bottle on 8/7/2011. Pours a relatively clear caramel colour with a small head. Has a strong aroma of caramel and butterscotch. The one is a malty monster, with more caramel and butterscotch coming through in the flavour. It also has a some nutty and marzipan flavours and some citrus fruit at the end. A slightly weird but very enjoyable brew.

Bouteille 355 ml. 6.6%. Couleur ambrée un peu voilée. Arôme de caramel, de malt caramélisé et houblon. Goût de malt, caramel, houblon frais. Douce en bouche. Finale avec un peu de houblon, un peu de caramel...très très bonne.

Definitely hadn’t had anything quite like this before...I will say I enjoyed it. Certainly a departure from my IPA tendencies, but for a malt-focused brew, I didn’t find it overly sweet but rather well balanced instead. Might pick up again on occasion when looking for a change of pace.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Palme (1200) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 3, 2011
0.355l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours a light hazy unfiltered mild orange body with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is quite fruity and malty with notes of yeast, red currants, ripe strawberries, some chocolate and light melon zest along with something that remind me of bourbon. Guess that sums it nicely up. Light oily texture, average to mild carbonation and medium-bodied. Flavor wise; mild malty, light fruit-yeasty. There’s a nice amount of hops that’s leaving a mild almost peppery bitter finish. I quite enjoyed it, but since this is a dead guy’s ale, I guess its not my type of ale.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Powertrip (758) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 3, 2011
Single bottle thanks to my uncle. Nose: hard to get a solid sniff from the nose of the bottle but very rich with lots of complex grains and a hint of dark cocoa. Taste: light sweet, light sour, light bitter. Some over-ripe cherries, a touch of banana and lots of roasted (but extremely light) cocoa.

when I want to remember a good english ESB, I go get DEAD.
has that great biscuity malt flavor that most of the mass marketed micro’s can’t match.
one of the best american strong ales that isnt hop-sided, yet is marketed as a German Mai-Bock? whatever! it’s good.
