COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Pours an off-orange with a firm white head. Aroma is caramel and citrus hops. Crisp and nice; flavor is caramel, bready and citrus. Nice beer; would get it again.

The beer is dark cloudy gold with a white head that doesn’t have much lacing or retention. The aroma is light hops. The taste is the same light hops with a little wheatiness to it. The feel is good for this style of pretty and its pretty drinkable.

Pours copper/gold with a thin lasting head. Lots of caramel malt on the nose. Smooth, lightly sweet with a lingering bitterness. Tangy, slightly metallic taste in the back of the palatte.

Pours tan brown out of bottle. Aroma is subtle. Mainly malt sweetness, caramel. However, taste is a bit of a surprise. Mainly bitterness. Complex. This is supposed to be a bock but way more hopping and bitterness than is the norm. Flavours are complex and subtle but a bit too much bitters and sours with the malt caramel sweetness for me.

bottle; clear amber-red with tan head; aroma-caramel and light notes of coffee; taste- mild sweetness with moderate bitter and carbonation-caramel-some fruits; OK beer, not enough hops to my taste

22 oz. Bottle. Amber orange color with short-lived fluffy white head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar. The first taste confirms the sweetness, but this beer is very nicely balanced with malt and Saaz Hops. The unique yeast contributes some fruitiness - apple, pear, raisin, which goes very well with the caramel flavors. The finish is short and leans slightly towards the sweet side with a bright lively fruitiness. Crisp, clean, and easy drinking but also a lot of flavor. A touch more on the finishing hops and it would have scored a "4".

Forever one of my favorites, I was awfully glad to find Dead Guy at the restaurant tonight, since the rest of their selection was mostly shit. Not the greatest beer, but consistent, always with just the right amount of bitterness to offset the rather sweet leanings of the malts. Toffee and caramel on the front couple with the familiar Pacman Yeast fruitiness, yet the fade is dry and German and surprising in an ale. Good beer, and often pops up in the damndest places.

Appearance: light coppery gold; light and bubbly head. Aroma: sweet caramel, malts and light hops. Taste: sweet and crisp, with a hint of hops to balance. Finish: crisp and clean, with slight hops. Notes: Solid and nicely balanced. Creamy in the mouth, yet still refreshing.
