Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a slightly hazy, deep orange with an inch thick, very dense, slowly dissipating, yellow-cream colored head with lots of nice lacing. More great work by the Flying Saucer in pouring it’s beers. Aroma of sweet malts and that familiar Rogue yeast. A bunch of dark toffee and caramels. Slightly woody and light orange hops. Flavor is a very full sweet malt with a touch of soft bittering citrus hops to balance this brew out. Lots of caramel and toffee and a bit of burnt sugar to it. Palate is buttery, smooth, and full with a light bitterness in the linger. Overall, one of the original beers that got me into the wonderful world of craft beer. A great representation of the style and a beer that really hits the spot for me any time. As always, solid and reliable.

Pours a nice orange-gold, small short lived white head. Lacing is there but not pronounced. Fruity-Hoppy nose. Very appealing, crisp and fresh. Medium-Heavy mouth-feel with very lgiht carbonation. Tangy and hoppy. The malty sweetness is a background note to a solid hop base. There is a yeasty after-taste that isn’t the most pleasant taste. Good stuff, very good every day brew.

Bier Koning. Golden orange body with slight head. Hoppy and fruity nose. Taste of caramel, fruits, and hops. Really nice and balanced palate. Warming finish. Well done.

Was pleasantly suprised with this selection. A nice variety of malts and hops in good balance. Went down smooth.

"Heller" good bock - well almost. Wait, how is this a bock and an ale at the same time? Golden color with minimal white head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, maybe some light fruits. Sweet caramel malts, fruity/floral flavors, spices, yeast, and some mild hops. Nice palate for the style. Satisfying beer but not overwhelming. Enjoyed this a lot down at the beach.

Beer pours golden in color with a very slight white head. Aroma is subtle with a slight hint of hops and malt. Beer has a mild maltly sweetness that fades quickly with a slight hop bitterness. Nice beer

This is a very nice ale. One of the best I’ve tried yet, although I’m a rookie beer taster. Pours a cloudy unfiltered honey amber with little head. The aroma is sweet malt with just a hint of hops and an even smaller hint of metal. The flavor is a very balanced sweet bitter malt with just the perfect hint of hoppiness. The after tast reminds me of a bitter sweet green bell pepper that keeps without turning foul like many other brews. The palate is moderate and dries out quickly. At $12 U.S. a sixer, I consider this a fair price for an excellent ale. I would recommend this to any serious beer drinker.

Good beer. I liked the double dead guy ale a little bit better, but it is also steeper in price. I found this beer to have almost a dirty/earthy taste (not bad). It looks great out of the bottle and has a good bitter smell to it. The cascading hops help greatly with the appearance. Not going to be my ’everyday beer,’ but very good on occasion.
