COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

I saw the bottle and i was like "Gee, this is gonna be the good..i mean look at the label, its got a skeleton on it"...then all went to hell. The aroma was that of pure malt..maybe some yeastiness, but the aroma was very weak and hard to distinguish. The Dead Guy Ale poured a very medium to darkish orange, but was very bright orange with mininal carbonation and practically no head in the light (the head lasted about 10 seconds, and that was with effort may i add). The taste was just a battering of malt on the tongue followed by one of the most god-awful hop bitternesses i have ever had to deal with. It ended very dry and unclean in my opinion..i like the carbonation aspect, but the maltiness is overboard, and the spicey/bitter finish is just terrible...it makes me cringe in horror..it almost has a grapefruity aspect to it. To say the least i wont be going near this again.....this has almost as much malt as a malt liquor for cryin out loud!!!

Not bad. This is not exactly my favorite style, however, I do enjoy a change of pace. It was more like a sweet ale then a true bock. A little hop mixed with a heafty malt sweetness. Well balanced.

I love Rogue’s version of this Maibock. It was crisp and clean with very nice color. Quite malty to the nose and the slightly dry finish was pleasant.

Very malty smell and taste. Bitter and full of hops. An appreciative amber with a kick ass bottle. Should be in everyone’s rating list.

Another fine Rogue product from a recovering Rogue hater. Malty flavor with light hops. Very good.
