Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Copper colored, little bit lighter then I actually thought it would be. Sweet on the one hand and then kind of hoppy at odd intervals. Not worth the 15 bucks I paid for a six pack. But good beer.

APPEARANCE: Poured into a pint glass, a somewhat cloudy copper gold ale with a cream-colored head was observed. Good head retention and nice lacing noticed. AROMA: Bread, pine, citrus FLAVOR: Nothing really terrible here. Sweet honey-like grain flavors hit me up front, then a grapefruit-like bitterness in the aftertaste. The two did not blend too well for me. It was like two very separate parts with no harmony, the bitterness just did not finish as well as I would have liked. PALATE: Rather light mouthfeel. A little thinner than I prefer. Carbonation is good. OVERALL IMPRESSION: Overall, this is an o.k. ale. The lighter body allows one to drink easily, but the after taste was just a little harsh. Others have given this a high rating. Maybe a different bottle will change my opinion. Serving type: bottle

A nice mixed nose of sweet malts and hops greets me as the top pops off the bottle that my wife brought back from her meanderngs. An average gold with a decent head in the glass. Not much nose away from the glass. No lacing. Sweet slick malts step up and are overtaken as the beer morphs into an IPAish thing. Tasty and refreshing.

poured slighly cloudy honey color - aroma of malts - taste is ok but not really my style - drinkable but not a great taste in my book.

Bottle: Pours a darker honey color with no head and very little lacing. Tastes of a piny malt with strong hops and alcohol. Nice and refreshing on the palate, well made brew.

355ml bottle bought from Cornelius Beer and Wine in Edinburgh. Though I never was that great fan of the Grateful Dead, I took pride in drinking this one. Pours a clear amber body, with only a ring of foam, diminishing from a huge, initial white head. Straight smell of sweet malts. Malty taste profile with sweet, dark caramel added by fresh, tropical fruits leading to a bittersweet ending. Rather well bodied. More or less like the band. Edinburgh 23.10.2008.

Draught @ Berryhill - Pours copper with no head...aroma is toasted malt, rich grain, slight pine...flavour follows, caramel malts are out of balance with the hop bitters, but it is still enjoyable, finishes with a lingering bitterness...
