Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Clear amber with a creamy white head. Aroma of malts and caramel, a bit of yeast. Flavour is a bit fruity, malty and caramel sweetness, dry slightly hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Very average.

I liked this beer quite a bit more than I thought I would. (No idea actually why I thought I wouldn’t like it). Anyway, it was pretty delicious! Pours caramel amber with a medium body. Aroma is malty, grainy, nutty and pleasant. Flavor is much of the same, with a mild hoppiness. The whole beer is much richer than I anticipated. I eagerly refilled my glass.

Comes out of the bottle a dark, appetizing, clear amber with a very thick and fluffy yellowish off-white head. Aroma is strong and mainly malty with fruity and hoppy hints. Mouth-filling flavor is edgy, malty, with a good hoppy undertone and just the right amount of bitterness. Texture is lively and edgy, and it leaves a bitter but satisfying aftertaste.

Cloudy amber with a dense head. Malty aroma with notes of nuts and bread. The flavour starts out sweet with corn and yeast dominating, then it continues into a bitter ending - way more bitter than the normal Maibock.

I have always enjoyed this beer. When I began drinking it about 8 years ago, my palate was undeveloped and I thoght it was a bit harsh. As I have matured, this is the beer I drink more than any other. (And in frighteningly large quantities) I recommend it for those just starting in craft beer, or for those who are tired of the rampant hopping of current craft ales and just need a break to an easy drinking, well balanced beer with just the right amount of bite.

Pours a deep amber with a 1/2 inch head. Aroma is sweet and malty all the way around. Flavor is sweet, but mildly hopped and well balanced for a maibock.

Hoppy perfume aroma. Large frothy off white head. Hazy medium amber body. Bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Not bad.
