COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pours a medium amber color with orange highlights and a 2-3 finger foamy off-white head. Fairly decent lacing. Smell: Sweet aroma of malt and caramel with just a hint of floral hops. Taste: Sweet toasted malt up front followed by caramel and a hint of alcohol in the middle then floral and citrus hops at the finish. Aftertaste is mostly hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a fairly high amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Good drinkability. You could knock back a few of these before you realize the alcohol is sneaking up on you. Overall: Very solid beer overall, although I’m not sure it’s really a Maibock. You could do a lot worse than this.

"Deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich hearty flavor." Well, that’s right: It goes down easy as kiss-my-hand and the roasty, toasty flavor held true through a pint and a half. This is a much reviewed beer - and greatly appreciated. All I can really do is say that it continues to be a pleasing beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a beautiful deep amber, hazy orangey brown. Light, white one-finger head. Roasty and caramel malt nose. Medium-light body that is creamy and smooth, almost fluffy in the mouth. Sweet malts dominate the taste but it has a nice hop balance that opens up to nice floral citrus note. Two thumbs up- definitely want to try this on tap again and try the double too.

12 oz bottle from the LCBO, served in an English pint glass. Pours clear amber with a frothy off-white head. The head slowly fades but leaves a decent amount of lace. The nose is mostly malt, with notes of caramel, honey, and toasted malts, along with hints of citrus and flowers from the hops. The flavour starts out with a honey-malt sweetness, but becomes very well balanced towards the finish with the introduction of a fair dose of American hops. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a smooth but almost sticky texture and light carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice Maibock; it is beautifully sweet, but with a very nice American hoppy twist at the end. A fine brew! 2010-08-28

Orange with a fizzy white head. Nice crisp grainy citrus and hemp aroma and taste with a grassy hemp finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep copper color, with hints of amber. Nice head with a strong aroma. Aroma is strong with malts and sticky hops. Taste is similar, with lots of sticky hops and almost carmelized malts. Nice lacing. There’s something inexplicable about this beer that I really like, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’m pretty sure its due to the yeast, but whatever it is I really like it! I would definitely like to brew with it sometime. The beer itself is good, but not great.

Vertical Bacon Strips (1617) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 23, 2010
Poured out a dark yet bright orange copper brew... ahahah crappy description!, small light tan head and very nice messy lacing. Mild caramel nose, citruses (mild and a bit hidden), sweet plum, a bit fragrant as well. The taste is fairly strong with some alcohol. Caramel, sharp bitterness, light cocoa bitterness, sweetness that sits under everything, molasses. Damn, why does the alcohol stand out so much? Feels a bit slick with a fairly long bitter finish. This is a pretty boring beer.
