3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pauls_parade (298) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - AUG 23, 2010
Pours a crystal clear golden amber color with a white that quickly dissipates but gathers around the edges. Caramel malt as well as some sour fruit in the nose. The palate is clean and refreshing, light-medium in body, lightly carbonated with a lasting finish. The taste is mostly sweet with caramel malt up front, but balanced with dry leafy finish. This is an enjoyable beer that I will definitely drink again.

Rating from notes taken in early August, when I was having trouble connecting with the site ... How little can one rating matter? This has to be among the most-rated beers in the world. To add my own two cents, this features the abundant sweet pale malts that you associate with a classic maibock, but finishes you off with some hop bitterness in the American craft beer style. Those hops would seem to clash with all that sweetness, but somehow the yeast pulls it all together. The finish proves bitter in the same way that a baguette is bitter. This is unlike the run-of-the-mill ipas that cloud our judgment and palates, making that hop finish worthy both of the malts that preceded it and of the beer’s status as a landmark of American craft brewing.

A deep malt and hop aroma. Deep amber color with a thin head and clear as a bell. A deep malty flavor with the hops present throughout the taste. This was bitter in the finish but had such a great flavor... got to like the dead guy!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hair6a11 (931) - Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2010
Bottle: Pours a Clear golden amber color with a small white head with decent lacing. Smells a little yeasty/bready.. but definately sweet. Flavors are first a lightly bitter hops, and it finishes with a sweet caramel malt. Lightly carbonated, an almost honey element hits the palate as well. Fantastic!

I have been drinking this beer for years, but have never tasted it like this. I received a 64oz brewery growler from Wavers1. It’s so much freakin better than the bottles or keg versions we get in south florida. With 2400 ratings, I’m not going to bore you with the details. Just know this, the closer to the source you get, the better this ale gets.....
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 drabmuh (160) - Maryland, USA - AUG 18, 2010
Bought a six-pack of this at a local liquor store in FL. Rogue Dead Guy Ale was a staple of mine out west, but I have turned to German and Belgian beers more as of late, its nice to know you can go home again.
Poured 12oz. out of bottle into Rogue pint glass. Amber in color, I didn’t remember what it smelled like, but the one I poured had almost no aroma at all. Smooth mouthfeel, moderately hopped, a great example of the style. Easy to drink. Still love this beer.

On tap at BJ’s. Hazy dark amber hue. Aroma of citrus hops and caramel malt. Hoppy, citrusy taste with hints of caramel. Full, tangy body. I would not guess it is a Maibock, taste more like IPA.
