Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogueís proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Sampled from a bottle at The Tilted Kilt S. Wabash, Chicago. Deep amber colour with a white head. malty aroma and very malty taste. Also honey and butterscotch with lots of floral notes. Powerful flavours and very full taste in the mouth. A really nice flavoursome beer.

Bottle @ dining room!
Pours a hazy light orange color with a big fluffy white head and some nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is sweet malt and leafy hops.... I mean, that sounds like bullshit I know... but thatís about it... I mean itís lightly fruity, itís got some fall time leaf rot, itís got some honey. But more than anything it smells like the raw ingredients from whence it came, which is not wholly bad.

The flavor is spicy, with a medium to low level of hoppiness & really pretty honey and apple forward. The bitterness level keeps things balanced pretty well here, nothing is terribly out of place.

Honestly Iíll always consider this more of an Amber Ale than anything, but itís not a bad Amber Ale, even if I donít care about amber ales.

Pours amber with medium, quickly diminishing head. Aroma is malt at first, some sweet citrusy notes can be sensed. Taste is very full. First thought is very carbonated, but it is not. It is a hard rocking body of the beer that gives you this sensation. It is slightly sour with a bitter finish, that is not too strong. A nice ale.

Bottle. Sweet, thickish, full bodied in a caramelly and bready way, quite a lot of fruity esters, some spicy hop notes. Dryish, light astringent alcoholic finish that balances the main part. Good.
