Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Toffee and orange on the nose, not as bold as i’d expected. Pours a nice burnt orange colour with a thin but robust, stark white head. This is a very complex beer but in a really subtle and understated way. Quite malty - biscuit and toffee dominant with a slight bitter hit intertwined. There’s some floral flavours in the back end, with an ever so slight lemon twang. Superb levels of carbonation and great density. A little sharp on the back end but leaves a good mouth coating.

Wow, I don’t know how many times I’ve walked past this over the years. Silly me! Pours a clear orange-copper with thin white head - no retention. Smell is wonderful - semi-sweet with malt and bread and citrus. Flavor also has a slight honey sweetness, balanced well with some hop bitterness. Finish has a trace of alcohol, but smooth and again semi-sweet. I must have more...

From the bomber, has a nice cloudy two tone (brown on the bottom, orange on top) look to it, little to no collar. Smells of sweet malt. Starts out really sweet but once the palate adjusts it evens out with carbonation and is very drinkable. I don’t remember having a maibock when I spent time in Germany, but then again I don’t remember a lot of things I did there. This is a delightful change of pace from what I usually drink, and I like that they made a German beer to celebrate a Mayan custom. Cheers.

Bottle from BeerMerchants. Pours hazy amber orange, with a single finger off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, dark fruits, and some hops too, faint.... Taste of initial fruits, then some light malts, then honey and extreme fruits and bitterness. Very good.

Tough beer for me to rate. First of this style. Most beers I like have a stronger flavor. I didn’t get much of a distinctive smell out of it. Pours a nice amber color with lasting lacing. There is tingling on the tongue upfront. The middle is a smooth malty feeling. Sweet, somewhat caramel or butterscotch hints, though not overpowering. A bit too much carbonation at the end for my liking (considering the middle felt so smooth). There are hints of hops bitterness, but nothing that even compares to a pale ale. Very drinkable beer. Came to the conclusion that this is one that will not stand out on unique or powerful tastes, but a great beer to go to if you just want to enjoy a good beer.
