Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Shaker glass at Mellow Mushroom - clear ornage, with off white head. Aroma carmel/malts - notes of hops, but not enough.

(Bottle). Mild sweet malty aroma. Color is orange amber with a thin white head. Flavor is unexpectedly fruity, rather mild, and is followed by a very nice dry malty finish that lingers.

Reddish amber from tap. Sweet with almost no hop taste. Drinkable but nothing really stands out. Just a bit flat and blah.

12 ozer poured into a shaker. Poured a dark gold color with a small white head. aroma is of sweet malt and some piney hops. Flavor is slightly nutty with sweet malt and a hoppy bite at the end. Medium bodied with mild carbonation.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a nice collapsing head, attractive dark honey yellow color, aroma of honey, other spices flow in, taste complex with multiple flavors that do not quite balance in my mouth, there is a bitter twang that comes in at the finish. I’d really like to try it on tap.

Well, this is my first Rogue brew, and I must admit, it’s not bad. I first heard of this brewer from hearing about it’s recent victories at the great american beer convention. This pours a dark hazy amber, with a good head and no lacing. It’s aroma is kinda subtle, but with some fruity back. The flavor is kinda subtle as well, but it has a decent mouthfeel, and some sweet maltiness on the finish. Cheers!

Bottle. Pours a deep copper color with a medium off-white head and plenty of carbonation. Aroma of malt, toffee, also kind of nutty and bread-like. Flavor is a bit sweet, with citrus and spices, such as nutmeg and pepper. Good hops balance keeps this beer from being too malty. Soft, pleasant mouthfeel and good aftertaste. Good brew! I’d like to pair this beer with a wood-fired pizza topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions and plenty of cheese. Oh, and just to keep my doctor off my back, let’s put a mixed green salad on the side.
