brokephibroke (137), Mead, Colorado, USA Aug 8, 2008 Bottle. Orange pour, nice creamy long lasting head. Malty, ripe fruit aroma. Sweet, metallic and a bit rotten fruit. Unremarkable palate. Maybe if this was 8%, I’d rate it higher. 944play (64), Santa Rosa, California, USA Aug 7, 2008 12oz in shaker at Lovejoy’s. Seriously, did someone forget to ferment this, and they just mixed vodka in some wort and bottled it? Sweet, malty, rich and cloying like a too-big bran muffin. I know I’m not being fair, but this is SO not my kind of beer. Could not finish it. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 6, 2008 [1373-20080518] 12floz bottle. Very faint grains aroma has a slash of lemon. Slightly hazy, amber orange body with a big medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter toasted corn flavour has quite a bit of grainy malt. Medium-full body. Great blend of toast and bitterness and malt.
($0.99 from Premier Gourmet; labelled "White Crane Bitter Ale") davhix (36), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2008 stuck at IAD for a few hours. had a bottle at harry’s tap room. nice color, nice pour, not at all what i was expecting. liked it quite a bit. made the delay more tolerable certainly! bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA Aug 5, 2008 Amber color with small lasting white head. Decedent caramel citrus (grapefruit) aroma with some unique yeast. Medium-light body with a quick yeasty, watery start and a dry bitterness in the finish. Lightly sweet and well carbonated. Nice brew, but could be more. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle. Aroma is of fruit (apricot?) and malt. Flavor is initially surprisingly sweet, a swirl of caramel malt and orange marmalade, and pine. It stays fairly sweet throughout, though the finish reveals a hint of bittering hops that I assume were present from the start but overshadowed. This beer is very tasty, that’s for sure. However, my quite fond memories of this beer when I first started drinking craft brew have proved off-base. I think I might have placed merit on this beer more on the name and not the quality: tasty as it is, I feel the malt is just a little too forward and sticky; the flavor also fades a bit too quickly. For example, Smuttynose’s Maibock has much better balance. Prymal (8), Kennewick, Washington, USA does not count Aug 4, 2008 Had on Tap at the Tav in Ellensburg WA. has a nice cooper pour with an off white creamy head. the hops were apparent but not overwhelming. has a nice caramel finish. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Aug 1, 2008 I hope when I’m dead I’m this malty. Interesting body and aroma. Nothing overpowering here, but pleasantly subtle. Balance like a see-saw. Very nice. And the name sells the whole package.
