Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Bottle from the_Captain. Thanks Mark! LOVE the aroma on this. Little bit of fruit, little bit of a malt smell, smell a bit like cider too. Pours a golden brown with a nice off white head. Tasteslike a bitter/Lager combo to me. Nuts and malt/little bit oh’ honey maybe? Very dry palate that I don’t care for but other than that a solid brew.

I wasnt too sure about how this would turn out, but I am glad I tried it. Very tasty and refreshing despite the higher alcohol content. I think the key here was the clever mix of caramel flavors with the abundance of hops.

Carmel honey color. Medium bodied bitterness and average balanced flavor and finish. Malty aroma. Not much head or lacing. Not for novices. But not enough for a family get together.

bottle: I was suspicious of how this one would taste given the relatively high alcohol content. My fears were for not and I should have known that Rogue seems to be incapable of brewing a bad beer. The high quality malts come through and the only thing that suggest that this is a strong beer is the label. There is no excessive taste of alcohol whatsoever. Excellent brew and a cool back story on its origins.

Red-amber in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is mainly of caramel, nuts and a hint of hops. Flavor is of malts and caramel with a little fruitiness and hops.

bottle: This pale bock was very good. I’m big on malts and this delivered the goods. I was wary of a beer 6.6% because often the alcohol content overwhelms the palate. I think i might have found a new style of beer to enjoy. Rogue puts out quality stuff.

Can’t believe the ratings that this beer is getting. This beer was served at my favorite watering hole for a short time, and it was one of the worst beers I’ve ever had. It only lasted a month due to poor feedback. Maybe I’m missing something here.
