COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Bottled. Pours clear amber with an off-white head. Nose of caramel and slightly toasted mats. Mderately sweet flavor of caramel, oranges and yeasty notes. Medium bodied, watery to oily texture and average carbonation.Slightly bitter finish. An elegant and well balanced ale.

Bottle. Pours an orange amber color with a modest white head. The nose is quite malty, brown sugar, some orange peel, yeast. The body’s malty and sweet, full, with a long finish. The texture’s a bit oily. Overall, an OK beer that I can’t quite figure out.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2012 Pours hazy amber with minimal head. Citrusy and toasty aroma. More of that in the taste, with some toffee. There is some hop presence, enough to provide a nice finish. This is nothing insane, but it’s eminently drinkable should the situation arise. Unfortunately, $16 for a 6-pack at LCBO is not a good deal.

Pours a nice amber with a think, creamy head. Flavor is sweet and of malts and citrus. Finish is bitter, long, and smooth. Solid brew from Rogue.

12 oz. bottle from a tulip. Nice honey color as advertised. Aroma is very malty. Taste has a nice combination of caramel. toffee, and light malt. Really nice bock style beer.

33cl bottle. Pours a hazy, amber with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has toffee and raisins. The taste has biscuits, toffee and burnt raisins. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a dry though malty finish. Overall, it’s good though I’m not sure it’s a Heller Bock. It tastes like a bitter.

A wonderful malty taste, abeit a tad thin with a hint of hops, a pleasant low carbonation and taste which lingers nicely. I am looking forward to another. It is a nicely built ale without overdoing anything.

Light, clean aroma with caramel, nut, and a little citrus. More of the same in the taste, with a little hop bitterness and the carbonation providing balance in the finish. Nice.
