COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Bottle, home. This beer is somewhere between tawny and mahogany in color. The head is off-white and leaves some nice lacing. The aroma is nice - sweet, subtle caramel malt with some light, fruity hops. The flavor is a tad sweet and finishes with a mildly sour lager/malt flavor, but it’s well-balanced and goes down easy. The mouthfeel has always seemed a tad odd to me. I get a funny graininess at first. Dead Guy won’t bowl you over with complexity, but it’s a solid beer and it’s easy to see why it has converted many a macro drinker.

Bottle, labelled White Crane Bitter. Pours light copper with a finger of tight pale beige head. Medium to high bead. Smells of hay and flowers with some stone fruits. Taste doesn’t live up to the aroma - it’s rather caramel sweet with subdued balancing bitterness. Moderately bitter and somewhat salty finish.

Pours pale orange with no head. Smells of sweet malts and apricot. Very faint. Extremely light on the palate. Thin. Cotton dry and bitter on the finish. Where’s the malt??? Yet another example of why the coast should stick to their great hoppy ales. Disappointment.

Slightly hazy golden blonde with a nice and lasting white head. Notes of sweet malts and apricots on the nose, mild carbonation, medium body, on the malty side, some fruity hops in there too, finishes pretty balanced between malts and hops, altough a little thin. Easy drinking tasty beer.

Glass. Pours a golden-rust with a thin white head. Has an exellent nose. Very floral, smells like a bouquet of roses. Slight hop notes, pine, grassy. Taste is delicious. More malty with hop undertones and a balanced sweet/slightly bitter finish, Smooth. Palate is medium. Not pilsener like, not a stout feel. Somewhere in between. This is overall a very good beer.

An incredibly balanced beer - plenty of hops and a complimentary maltiness for this, my current favorite. It’s a bit pricey though.

Dark gold pour from bottle, moderate head. Understated hops aroma. Well-balanced hops / maltiness. Medium body, slippery mouthfeel. Minor lacing. Lingering bitter finish. Not bad. Bock is not my favorite style, but this is a good, solid example.
