COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

On tap. Poured a clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma had notes of pine and citrus with a bit of spice and malt. Malt was more apparent in the flavor with more of an undertone of hops.

This was okay. I was expecting it to be great, which might have had some-what of an effect on my ability to rate it, given how disappointed I was. Regardless, it had kind of a typical flavor, nothing special. The finish was kind of unsettling for me. I wouldn’t buy this beer but I would definitely drink it for free!

From a bottle. Great nose, with some floral notes and a few spicy elements. Rich head leaves a decent lace; color is dark honey, almost into the orange or amber spectrum. Flavor is really pleasant; toasty malts up front give way to an almost astringent hop dryness on the finish. Easy to drink, and damned tasty.

Tasty, slightly sweet caramel-y cereal-ish malt forward with nice balancing hops and slight fruitiness. There is a weird funkiness in here somewhere though. Just a little cheesy.

A great beer with a distinctive taste. Hazy orange color without much foam. A little on the bitter side.

Definitely not what you would expect from the flagship product of the Dead Guy brand. When I first opened the bottle there was a strong wif of malt, but this disappeared when I poured it into a glass. Resembles a IIPA which is not surprising that they have a squared version. PNW Hops add much robustness to the citrus and honey flavored base. This is a clear winner on a hot summer day.

Appearance is orange, slightly brown. Aroma is citrussy with hints of pine. When you sip it, you definitely feel a cleansing carbonation and with the bitterness of the hops would make a very good pairing with some spicy food. Thin body. The finish is interesting- it felt long lasting but then had a real quick, crisp finish. Don’t think I’ve ever encountered that before.

Pours a deep, slightly hazy orange with a pretty thin white head that dissipates quickly. It has an aroma of grapefruit, malt and a bit of something else which I can’t exactly describe, perhaps a bit resiny. The taste matches the aroma, and this beer has a nice mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation. Overall, a fine offering from Rogue.
