COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Draft from Hanger in a flight. Pours a clear orange with about half a finger of white head. Very malt-oriented. Toffee and toast. Taste is the same. Lots of caramel and toffee. Very light citrus hops hiding in the aftertaste. Medium bodied with a somewhat thick texture. Lively carbonation and a decently bitter finish. Overall, not bad. Kinda reminds me of Bud’s American Ale. Something decent to drink on tap if there are no other choices.

Bottle. Pours a medium amber color with a bit of a head. Has a sweet caramel-y scent. While the caramel flavor comes through, the taste is not overly sweet. I would definitely drink this again.

Draught. Pours a hazy amber with a thin white head. Smells of malt and caramel with perhaps a hint of citrus. Tastes heavily of malt and yeast, providing a medium sweetness with a hint of bitterness and hops. Medium body. Texture is creamy. Finishes astringent.

Tasted from bottle into nucleated pint glass. Poured a clear, deep copper color with moussy off-white head, great retention and lace. Powerful aromas of noble hops, bread and caramel, glazed donuts. Complex malt-sweetness: suggestive of toffee, biscuit, brown sugar, coffee with cream. I’d swear the was some kettle caramelization in the brewing process, like what happens with extract brewers. Love that pacman yeast! Clean, refreshing, with faintly fruity esters: apricots, plums, very faint citrus. Long-lasting, multi-layered aftertaste. A remarkably well-crafted brew. Sophisticated and super-drinkable at the same time.

Pours a cloudy copper with bubbly white head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, bread, and citrus hops. Taste is malty with a nice dry hop bitterness on the finish. Notes of bread and honey linger after the bitterness diminishes. Medium and dry mouthfeel. Overall its flavorful and easy to drink.

Pours a nice coppery colour. Nice crisp aroma. Strong flavour for an ale, slightly sweet with a bit of caramel. There’s a good reason that this is the rogue beer that is in all the Portland bars.
