Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

12 ounce bottle- pours a nice amber golden with an average wheat colored head. Aroma is sweet and floral. Taste was almost too sweet with a citrus flavor predominating. Not bad at all, but I think the sweetness would soon become cloying. Worth a try.

tap first, 12oz bottle after.... tap was oxidized, gross and nasty, from Ruby Tuesday’s in Athens, guessing they dont have much traffic or clean the lines. bottle: much better, pours a nice gold amber, with a near white head, taste is intriguing, some initial hop taste then immediately carmel malty goodness, and that is what sold me on this, easy drinking.

Bottle and on tap. Copper color pour with off white head. Hops and malt aroma. The sweet yeast and hops malt mix is very distinct on the pallet. Decent carbonation keeps it lively and the combination of distinctive ingredients makes this a smooth and flavorful beer.

Bottle. Pours an orange-ish amber color with a small white head. Subtle aroma with hints of citrusy hops. Nice balanced flavor with some sweetness to match the bitter hops. Nothing extraordinary about this, just an all-around good beer.

Re-rate 8/8/09. Copper color with a thin head. Caramel malty, toffee, and a decent hoppy bite. A bit resiny. Overall a solid beer, nothing too spectacular but something I could probably drink anytime. Original rating: Pours a nice copper, murky color with moderate head and lacing. Sweet hoppy aroma. Flavor is sweet and somewhat fruity with a nice hop/malt balance. Slight bitter finish. The flavor won’t over-power either but this is very well balanced and good. A Bock; seems like this could fall between a Pale Ale and an IPA, but regardless of what style it falls under I liked it.
