bbp182 (255), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 6, 2008 It is a beautiful amber color with nice head and lacing. Smells very sweet, caramel, and fruity/citrusy hop notes. The taste is amazing! Rogue never seems to fail to make an amazing beer! Fruity hop bite and a malty sweetness to it. I can see how people could think that this is more of an IPA then a Bock. Amazing. oh6gdx (8802), Vasa, Finland Apr 6, 2008 Bottled. Hazy orange colour, small white head. Aroma is sweet fruity hops along with some hints of caramel. Flavour is bigtime fruity and flowery hops along with some nectary hints. Wellbalanced and quite nice. More IPA/APA than bock. Davin (48), Vermont, USA Apr 4, 2008 Not a bad ale but I don’t see the need to stock Vermont shelves with a so-so beer brewed so far away. Nice label though. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear amber with off white medium head with minimal retention. Aroma of hoppy floral and caramel. Flavor has citris, sweet, caramel, and medium bitter. Medium-full palate, medium carbonation. Very slight hints of clove?
Good beer! FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Apr 4, 2008 1 pt. 6 oz bottle. This one’s right in line with my taste. Color is a clear rich amber. Not, terribly thick head but the head is at the same time fizzy and fluffy while it lasts. Nose is of clean fresh malts. Taste is dominated by hops. But it’s a really good bitter-sweet hop flavor. Notes of carmel and honey in the flavor as well. Finish is dry and hoppy, with slightly bready under-notes. The hoppy flavor and finish is more like an American IPA than a heller bock. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA Apr 2, 2008 Nose is heavier on malts, sweet aroma. Body is also sweet malts, and a bitter hoppy bite. Good body, full without being thick. Seems maybe too carbonated for what it is trying to be, but it’s not a huge flaw. Flavor is ordinary, hop bite is average. Pretty decent beer to keep in the fridge, though. I tend to enjoy it as it is versatile without being bland. WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Apr 1, 2008 Pours a coppery gold color with thin head. Good blend of hops and malt in the aroma. The flavor is nice and hoppy, without being overpowering. Unfortunately not much else in the way of other flavors. Smooth mouthfeel if a bit watery. In short, it’s good, but not great, as a standalone beer. But, as one of the commenters below mentioned, it really does complement bar-fare food well. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Mar 31, 2008 Bomber purchased from Boar’s Head / Bread Garden in Iowa City, IA. Poured an orangish copper hue that was slightly hazy with a medium thick head that dissipated slowly (and pretty much completely). Big malty aroma with some telltale Rogue hop notes. Initial taste is bitter with a sharp maltiness that has small hop profile and mellow sweetness. Finishes with a crisp bitterness that is pleasant, albeit not my personal style preference.
