Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

330ml bottle (Opus K, Lohja)
Big malty aroma, soapy and dish-watery. Not selling itself to me very well. Some aromatic hops, and a bit dusty. Anna mentioned nuts and wood, and unlike me quite liked the aroma. Taste is quite thin, but has a mellow walnut and woody maltiness. I prefered the taste, Anna was less enthralled. Carbonation was soft. If this is a Maibock, I’m a Dutchman. (Though US brewers not having a clue about European styles seems to be the norm.)

On tap at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee. Very slight head to it, very clear with an orangish hue. Aroma was a bit malty, spicy. Flavor was rich and hoppy, with a hint of malt. Palate was a bit on the thin side but it went down easy. I’d probably have one again.

This actually used to be one of my favorite beers but I hadn’t had it in a while, now I don’t really see it making it back to the regular rotation. Pours amber with a thin head. Heavy malt aroma and flavor and some caramel in there as well. The hops weren’t as present as I remember. The beer tasted sweet. Average beer.

I have heard many good things about this one, and left slightly dissapointed. It’s a bit watery, but the flavor isn’t too bad. A bit sweet, and some malty aroma. It’s lacking a little body, but overall, not bad.

Pours a medium gold color with a light white head. Smells a bit bitter with some hints of malt. The flavor is malty and bitter as one might expect from the aroma, but the flavor is a little weak. The beer also feels a little thin in the mouth. This isn’t a bad beer, but it is lacking a little in body and flavor.

Very disappointing. I was expecting a great beer and got not much at all. I am hoping I got a bad six pack. The malt flavor was small and that wrecked my opinion of the beer. The hops were over powering and way out of place. Mouth feel was thin. Hopefully, the folks on the west coast that hail this beer as one of the best are getting a different product.

The good beer with the crazy name. Taste is good, beats all your macro-brews by a mile. Good on the palate, goes good with pizza, hamburgers, brats, etc. I have seen it in a few stores here and plan to get some more.
