Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Very nice ale. It confuses my taste buds, but in a good way. One minute malt, the next floral hops. One minute biscuit, the next, tangerine. This ale is tan and cloudy, with a nice fluffy head that lingers. I highly recommend it.

By far my favorite beer to date, I love the hoppy taste in the end. Never had on tap, only in a 12 oz. bottle. Tempted to make a long trip to try the draft..

On draft, Dead Guy came to me with a thin layer of foam covering the top of my liquid bliss. At least a fingers worth of head, I am greeted by a dry, hoppy nose with hints of lemon and orange. The hops are present up front in the swallow, fading nicely into malt smoothness with a hint of sweet caramel and nuts. Orange amber in color, the light coming through my glass makes it almost shine. Not as creamy buttery as Old Thumper for example, Dead Guy still exerts a nice malt presence as hops add their citrus zing to the palate. As Dead Guy warms and I near the end of my glass, I am left with the impression of lemon hops and an almost spicy peppery finish supported by a malt lightly sweet backbone.
Not overly carbonated, Dead Guy is a solid west-coast interpretation of a Heller Bock, and one of Rogue’s flagship beers. I’ve had Dead Guy both on draft and bottle, and enjoyed it every time.

12oz bottle purchased from LCBO in Toronto. Allowed to warm for about 10 minutes from the fridge. Pours a clear, medium copper with a nice fluffy head which dissipates. Medium aroma of straight-up malt. Initial tastes are mainly malty with a tiny bit of sweetness and a slight hop tang. Aftertaste becomes more hoppy as it warms. Balanced. Medium bodied. S’alright.

Aroma is fruity and hoppy, pale honey color with a 2 finger head. This is what beer is about my friends. One of the best tasting beers I’ve ever had. Theres nothing to complain about on this one

Light buttery carmel malt aroma. Metallic + slighlty dusty. Smell is clean like dirt after rain. Light fruitiness and some spice (black pepper, nutmeg). Mellow toasted malt flavor with big floral + fruity (fig, melon, orange) characteristics. Spices (cinnamin, nutmeg, black pepper) and a subdued hops kick for balance. Palate is mildly astringent with a creamy texture. The tangy bite and malty body give this brew its extreme drinkabiliity.
