Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Poured from bottle. Clean orange. Nose is mild malt and thrashed hay. Taste follows with nice hop backing.

Half gallon growler from the liquor store. Pours clear amber with an orange tinge, small white head that quickly is gone and leaves little lacing. Aroma is toasted grain (almost like corn), honey, brown sugar, pear, and apple...pretty nice. Taste is medium sweet, mild to medium bitter, fruity with some caramel sweetness and a nice bitter bite at the end. Medium body, slick, watery texture, soft carbonation, and bitter finish. It seems like a cross between a German Oktoberfest and a British Pale Ale more than a Maibock. It’s OK but I don’t think I will revisit this one, too watery, bitter, and generic tasting.

Pours a yellow/orange color. Can’t really decipher the aroma, has some metallic in it. The taste is sweet, caramel, syrup and honey, complemented by hops and warming the throat. Unusual taste, but it’s pleasant alright.

Pour is light orange with a medium white head. Aroma and flavor of spice, caramel, honey, biscuit, and tart fruit. Finish has a bit of booze and more fruit sweetness.

Pours a half finger of head on a clear dark straw colored body. The aroma is bright orange and tangerine with a little caramel. The taste is a hardy malt caramel with a slightly sweet pine finish. The texture is fizzy, a bit too much. An enjoyable beer.

Poured two fingers of head on a mostly clear, medium straw colored body. The aroma is quite "grainy." Like sticking your nose into a grain silo. There’s a little lemon in the background though. The taste is wonderful, great balance. It has a big dose of bitterness upfront, then a big malt bill comes through. Finishes clean. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. Enjoyable.

Bottle LCBO: Orange glow with nice tight beige head. Malt, toffee, and biscuits in the nose. Tastes malty and yeasty with some mild hop content. Soapy mouthfeel and highly quaffable despite the higher alcohol content. Balanced bittersweet finish. Very good then.

Appearance: Light haze with a copper body. Creamy light tan head.
Aroma: Malty like a doppelbock. Caramel and brown sugar, very malty and complex. Hard to really pinpoint the flavors.
Taste: Malty through and through. Caramel to brown sugar throughout.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: I don’t see the fuss about this. It’s not bad and I see why it’s a gateway beer, but there are so much more, like Troegenator.

Draft. Pours a deep amber. Sweet aroma of malts and toffee. Taste is sweet with some mild hops. Prefer other Rogues but this is pretty good.
