COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Pours cloudy coper with a frothy off-white mostly diminishing head. Smells inviting, medium intensity, with caramel, hops, and spice. Medium intensity, body, and aftertaste. Round and creamy texture. Tastes sweet/sour and finishes with some bitterness and sweetness. Complex/well balanced quality. Appreciated

750ml. If this beer is indicitive of Maibock then this isn’t my style at all and I will stay away for a bit. From the first sip I regretted buying this. It seemed overcarbonated too - not tons of little bubbles but lots of big ones. The taste was just not good for me.

A decent beer, easy to drink, though the best aspect is the glow in the dark bottle around haloween time.

I’m not sure if it’s the style or what, but I wanted more hops. It had a very easy drink to it however. I will come back for more.

A cloudy amber color with a good long lasting creamy head. Bitter taste strongarms the floral and roasted caramel overtones. Not too hoppy though...

(1 pt. 6 fl oz.) A nice open amber color when poured. The aroma is pretty basic, although there is a bit of sweetness. The flavor continues to be sweet with a noticeable caramel taste. A really great feel. Medium bodied and easy to enjoy. A nice basic beer overall.

Pleasant sweet, fruity ale. I don’t understand how this could be considered a maibock, however. Estery, fruity, honey-flavored characteristics are not unpleasant, but certainly resemble a West Coast ale more than a lager. Nice warming character; reminds me of a lower alcohol version of Lagunitas’ Brown Shuggga’.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy burnt umber. Head is two fingers, decent retention. Smell: Citrus notes over a malt field. Taste: Bittersweet malt front leads into a middle that demonstrates medium hop bitterness, with fruity citrus hop flavour and piney overtones. Finish is long and malty, with some lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, maybe a bit over-carbonated. Drinkability: Good balance between hops and malt. Very drinkable.

I had heard it was great, was merely pretty good. A little more bitter than I had hoped for, especially after a couple. All things said, I would buy it again.
