COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue’s proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Great beer, reminds me of an amber. The yeast shines. very well balanced easy drinking, but little in the way of aroma, didn’t pour as well as it could have, hence lacked head and retention of it. Overall a good beer I would definitely re-visit.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Dark copper, quite clear, dense beige head. Smell of caramel, hay, spices and burnt malts. Medium sweet, distinct caramel, quite vinous, almost like port, dark fruits, very good. Moderate bitter finish. Probably the helles bock i’ve tried, but i think it’s more of a crossover to dunkler bock than a classic helles bock

Hazy amber color, minimal off-white head. Aroma of honey, floral hops and lots of caramel. Taste is grassy caramel. Some sweetness and bitterness. Well balanced. Thin body, creamy, flat to soft carbonation. Good one.

Very nice! Dark honey color, malty and boozy on the nose. Great malt flavor, hearty, and surprisingly boozy flavor for the abv. Overall a great beer

12 oz bottle--> pint glass. Amber pour, good head. Aroma is hoppy, toasty with an almost pungent sweetness. Drinks dry with notes of pine tar and cranberry. Pretty exotic but still very decent. Stick with it if you're just tasting and have doubts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Keg at Rogue, PDX Airport, 12/11/14. Hazed golden orange with a moderate off white swirl and edgeing. Nose is caramel, rich malt notes, nutty, candied sugars. Taste comprises caramel, dark fruit rinds, candyfloss, sweet notes. Medium body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff.

One of my favorite beers from the Portland area, Dead Guy is particularly good from the tap. The Wild Hare in little Canby, Oregon serves it at the perfect temperature. It’s also good in a growler and holds its flavor and bite well.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a deep copper color and perfectly clear with a nice off white head. Smells of sourdough, honey, and a hint of orange. Tastes of sweet malt, honey and caramel with a dry finish. Palate is perfect for style. Very good will definitely drink again.
