Commercial Description:
Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops.
In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with MaierBock as the elixir.

Very nice brown color. Small head forms - doesn’t last long. Nutty aroma - very nice. Hoppiness apparent as soon as it hits the tongue - becoming sharper and more bitter as you swallow. An unexpected flavor. Mellows some as you finish the bottle. Maltiness slow becomes more apparent, an interesting trait. A nice easy drinking ale - a real treat from Rogue (as always....do they make a *bad* beer?).

This was nice. Flavorful. Quite hoppy. Rich. This is really a bitter beer. I really enjoyed it.

I greatly enjoyed this beer. Your first hint that this is a treat is the supurb color of the brew. The sight is followed by a slightly hoppy aroma befiting a well balanced beer. The first sip reveals a malty character up front followed by a slight spicy bitterness which work well together. This beer possesses a wonderful mouthfeel and represents a job well done by Rogue. The only questionable aspect of this beer appears to be inconsistancy in quality. Read some of the other reviews and judge for yourself.

A Maibock that’s actually yop fermented. Sugary pretty much defines this beer, syrupy, tofeeish with slight tang in aftertaste. Refreshing and characterful. Not a true bock, but a good introduction and interesting Rogueish twisted interpretation.

True amber color, beige head. Initially crisp in the mouthfeel. Tastes then alternate between a sweet malty honey flavor and a refreshing hop taste...well balanced...well done.
