Pours very dark with full mocha head. The aroma has modest notes of yummy dark chocolate, malt balls and some roasted malts. The taste is rich yummy chocolate milk followed by dark roasted malts, a touch of spicy hops and then building rich notes of over stuffed powdered clumpy chocolate milk. Just yummy from front to back. You expect to see chocolate milk mix residue at the bottom of the glass. A bit richer aroma would push this one over the top. Solid!

If you need some cooking chocolate in a recipe, just pour in a little of this beer. Heavy chocolate aroma wafts from the bottle as soon as it is opened. The pour is an opaque black with a good-sized, dark brown head. The flavor is completely dominated by a dark chocolate flavor.

So Rogue is just all over the place sometimes. The John John series of beers could not be much worse, then there is the alias thing, the XS pricing, etc. Then they put out beers like the Chatoe Dirtoir Black Lager and this one. Very very dark brown foam falls into a brown-black blody. Aroma is silky chocolate cake, roasty. Taste is light sour twinge, roasty, then a rush of sweet milk chocolate.

Bottle. Pours deep black with moderate lacing and a very thin brown head. Aroma is pretty much like a melted dark chocolate bar with a touch of oatmeal. Dark chocolate all the way on the flavor, slight undertones of roasted malt balls, oats, and a slightly bitter hops finish, but probably the most chocolate I have ever tasted in a beer. Thick and sticky with very little carbonation. Very good.

Tap during brew battle - black as night with slight carbonation, nestle quick colored burnt permahead. Delicious chocolate sensation although not bitter at all.

Pours very dark and syrupy with thin tannish head. Smells like dark chocolate. Taste is hershey’s chocolate syrup, malty with just a little bit of a kick to remind you that there’s alocohol in here. Tasty and interesting.

Rogue Double Chocolate Stout is a thick black liquid with a fluffy, foamy brown head and some rainbow bubbles. The head stays put and coats the glass nicely. It has a sweet chocolate aroma. It smells like a fondu pot. It has a smooth, soft, full body with a clean, dry finish. Wow! It has a super chocolate flavor! It’s slightly sweet and slightly bitter and it all seems to come from the chocolate. There’s a possible hint of licorice and coffee. I’m a big fan of their regular Chocolate Stout and this is just more of a good thing.

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a thick tan head. Smells like a chocolate malted with a touch of coffee and oats. Creamy full body with a tang. Taste is Hershey’s syrup, caramel, orange peel and pine. Primarily sweet, as expected, with a good dose of hops to add some balance and contrast. Finishes with cocoa and espresso.

(22oz bottle) Pours black with 2 finger milk chocolate head that has a pillow top. Lacing is nice. Good God! Aroma is milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and some licorice ( think chocolate tootsie pop). The initial sweetness is followed by a green hoppy bitterness and some roasty flavors. . Full bodied with creamy and oily texture. Carbonation feels lively on the tongue and finish is slightly bitter with some anise characteristics. I think this is a good beer although I’m not a huge fan of the hops in this beer. I think if the hops were toned down the richness of the chocolate would really shine through. Will have to pick up some more and lay them down to see how this beer evolves. I expect it will age marvelously.
