From a fancy red bottle into a pilsner glass. No date on bottle. Very small whiteish head with little lacing. Aroma is cocoa and chocolate syrup. Pours a very dark black but it's actually quite thin. Mouthfeel is thin and a bit oily. Taste is straight up chocolate syrup. Pretty one dimensional and sweet. Like a toned down version of ST Chokolat. Pass on this one for sure. I try to like Rogue but I think this is my last time giving them another shot. Good marketing, meh beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Oozes into the glass like sludge, it’s such a great, thick mess of a stout. Aromas of coffee beans, hay, and chocolate. Tons of semi-sweet chocolate on the palate, with a bright note from the hops -- like candied ginger or lilac. Chocolate finish. Not at all sweet. Drying. Great with anything to give it sweetness, like cookie or caramel or even a little chocolate cake.

Pretty chocolaty and toasty as expected, but a bit thinner and not as complex as some others. Good but not excellent.

Poured into snifter. Almost black with 2 finger brown head. The lacing lingers but disappears after a few minutes. Smells like a lot of chocolate, coffee, and faint vanilla. Tastes like mocha coffee with lots of vanilla! Milk and dark chocolate aftertaste, sweet. Light palate turns sticky and full. Pretty good beer, it wasn't overpowered by chocolate, nice balance! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle pours a dark brown color with a bit of head. Mildly sweet chocolate taste without much bitterness. Some noticeable spiciness too.

From that bright red 750 ml. bomber. Dark brown to near black pour with lasting, lingering tan head. Dark baker’s chocolate and malts on the nose and that is the main thing. Everything else is immaterial. Medium body with a slight acidity. Full chocolate malt beginning leading up to a mild bitter finale. Dry. very nice and worth high marks.

28/III/14 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home, Bier van de Maand blind tasting for Gentse Biervereniging, the extra’s - BB: n/a (2014-322)

Dark brown to black beer, huge creamy irregular beige to even brown head, very stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of vanilla, caramel, sugary and sweet impressions, some chocolate. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: cocoa powder, caramel, lots of crème brûlée, sugary sweetness, slightly sour notes, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: some mocha, caramel, vanilla, little bitter, hoppy touch, dark chocolate. Very nice dessert beer!

Bottle pour, opaque black body, big light walnut head fades eventually to a ring leaving moderate lacing. Aroma is chocolate, raisin, vanilla, bread. Flavors are chocolate, raisin, plum, coffee. It’s a sweet beer, with a slightly bitter finish. Body is not super thick, but still rich and smooth, carbonation moderate.

Black with a medium tan head. Aroma is rich chocolate. Flavor is chocolate with a bit of alcoholic sweetness. Body is light but full, very drinkable.

Really nice chocolate imperial stout! The beer pours a jet black color with a very dark brown head. The head leaves a little bit of lacing around the inside of the glass, but not a whole lot. The nose smells of a molten-lava chocolate cake dessert and some bitter hops. The flavors are all chocolate, bitter, sweet, smooth, milky, creamy and slightly hoppy toward the finish. I got a very subtle hint of alcohol in the aftertaste, as well.

Chocolate and coffee aroma and taste. Candy sirup with roasted malts. Creamy chocolate aftertaste.
