jonno (536), Brisbane, Australia Nov 6, 2009 Likea big belgian crossed with a DIPA. Poured a lovely pumpkin orange hue with good head. Lots of lacing. Nose was of pinapple, caramel and even some mango. In the mouth it statred sweet but finished with some nice hop bitterness. A well made big beer. A bit expensive but a nice treat. This is how the old crustacean should taste! hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Nov 5, 2009 Pours a hazy orange/yellow with an off white head. Aroma has honey, malt and hops. The flavor is very sweet and complex. Like a hoppy Belgian ale... without the candi sugar. Enjoyable. TreborWhip (67), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2009 750ml bottle served in plastic cups at Halloween party, therefore, I can not comment on the appearance except for a nice frothy off-white head that lingered. Very enjoyable ale that had the perfect combination of slight sweetness that was well balanced with bitterness. clingman71 (238), Centerville, Ohio, USA Oct 31, 2009 nice amber color, aroma predominately of some sort of sweet malt (caramel), but some citrus hop aroma is lurking as well. This is a pretty malty beer, but not too much to overpower the hop presence like the regular Dead Guy does for me. It has a grainy bready malt quality that balances some of the malt sweetness, and a slight fruitiness along with the citrus hoppiness. I would guess that this is loaded with a lot of caramel malt, but the description only lists caramel 15L( not overly heavy and sweet?), the Munich malt could also be adding to the sweetness, but I was thinking this to be the "grainy/bready" malt. Very enjoyable and far superior to Dead Guy Ale in my opinion. Beaver (587), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 27, 2009 750ml bottle, dated 2009. Pours a hazy orange amber with a frothy smallish head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts, toasted toffee, and some fruits and a little alcohol.
The flavor is toasted biscuity malts, nuts and some fruitiness with a little alcohol and some decent bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low smooth carbonation.
Overall, an interesting beer. I like this a lot better than than the regular version but there’s still some of the toasted biscuity malts that I don’t much care for.
gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Oct 26, 2009 Bomber. Pours a glowing amber with off-white foam. Lots of hop and malt in the aroma, which is nicely balanced. Initial flavor is a little watery, but I think that’s just because it’s very cold. Piney, citrus, and floral hops all take turns throughout the palate, and the mouthfeel is buttery thick and lasting on the tongue. Alcohol is well disguised, except for the telltale burn on the tongue and going down. NIce! r464 (285), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2009 A bit too buttery in flavor for my taste. The hops just weren’t there. A bit of a disappointment from Rogue. Feinschmecker (176), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 24, 2009 Dark amber color. Intense scent of citrus hops. Flavor is on the sweeter side with hints of caramel, but balances well with the powerful hops. Full on the palate and the finishes is a tad bitter.
