Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm’s, late summer or early fall of ’08 Overall Impression: I really enjoyed this one. I knew that I probably would as I am a big fan of the regular Dead Guy. I don’t have a ton of notes on this rating, but it is a really good brew...

Yum, smells of caramel, alcohol, hops. Pours burnt hazy gold with thin off-white head, good lacing. Taste is of Caramel, decent malt-hop balance. Very good beer for a gift (this was for my father). Love the bottle.

750ml bottle. Aroma brings much malt, nuts, cola and some smoke. Flavor is very malty. Also toffee, nuts and caramel. Palate is big. Overall I think this one is to sweet and it has a to "sticky" palate.

Bottle: Clear red colour, with a huge head. Aroma is werry malty and ,has lots of choclate/caramellynes, and a dry hopy nose. Flavor had lots of malts, caramelly mouth feeling, medium body! and medium malty alcy/bitter finish. I Like this mix of taste! great beer!

Draft at Annie Bailey’s, Lancaster PA...much better than Dead Guy, which I don’t think I’d rate as hight now (something about the apricot flavor throws me off, similar to Bell’s Pale Ale which I did rate much lower)...but Double Dead Guy pours a deeper amber, more robust body and flavor...not as much on the apricot but more of an orange/tangerine citrus flavor...I assumed the ABV would be higher but you cannot taste the 9.5...really good.

TAP: deep amber pour, minimal head. Caramel & hop on the nose, the body wasn’t extremely robust, taste was caramel, citrus/fruit, plenty of hop kick, and a loooooong bitter finish - which is driving my rating down, because that’s just not my thing. A little more malt would be nice.

Large Bottle (2008 label). Pours amber with a slight head. Very little alcohol taste for such a high abv. Very drinkable.

Thanks to mrteabiscuit for this bottle. The beer pours no head, but has good lacing. Orange/amber in color with a caramel and hop smell. Taste is toward the hop rather than sweet, but the balance is nice. The body is oily, and there are also sweet malt and alcohol smells here. Unfortunately the bitter lingers on the palette more than I would like. Overall a solid Rogue beer, but not sure it is worth the price one must pay for this one.
