Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Bottle. Orange/red body, with a medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits, hops, yeast. Flavor is dark fruits, yeast and hops. Nice bitter aftertaste.

On tap. Aroma had some orange citrus twang to it, and an interesting malty sweetness (similar to that of a California Common). Some toffee and caramel. Not bad, not that good. 3.5-3.6

Generally a weak aroma and I was at first apprehensive, but the pour was very attractive with a fluffy off-white medium bodied head. Some alcohol taste was present with loads of hops and a nice lingering hoppy aftertaste. Very smooth, strong beer to relax and share with a good friend.

Enjoyed on tap from a whiskey snifter. Pours a medium-colored brown with a small white head. The aroma is relatively slight, not what I would expect, and even a little bit light. There were notes of hops and malt, but not to the extent that one would expect in a beer of this ilk and alcohol content. However, while the aroma was a bit of a disappointment, the flavor combination was excellent. First, there wasn’t a note of alcohol to be found - amazing considering the size of this beer. Additionally, the combination of specialty malt and hops was really satisfying. My sample was eminently drinkable, allowing me to enjoy two samples, among drinking other beers. The finish was medium-dry to right smack in the middle of the spectrum. A great beer.

Tap at Rogue Ales Public House in SF. Had high expectations, and it lived up to them. Clear golden color with a white head. Nutty, malty aroma. Flavor is sweat bready caramel malt, sugar, toffee, nuts, and mild hops on the finish. Crisp and refreshing with medium body.

HAd at GOBF. Not nearly as hoppy as I expected. Rich carmel malts. Again..not as hoppy as I would have liked..

This was one of the few beers from beerfest that I liked. I remember enjoying it more that dead guy when I first tried that one months ago.

Lots of hops and sugar. Cloudy brown and bitter, but simple and one dimensional. Still an improvement over Dead Guy.
