It was very heavy in both taste and feel. It brought me way down to a lower point in my life. It definitely kicked my ass in the best kinda way. TheBeerOrg (1569), Kentucky, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Peach amber and sporting a flush, tanned head. In the first few minutes, not too much aroma, but thankfully, it more than makes up for it in aroma. Luscious-full-bodied mouthfeel, with a depth of maltiness and, in particular, roastiness, that is uncharacteristic of doppelbocks. Cascades of toffee and caramel do then ensue. Dark candied fruits are senses as well--perhaps Special B? Sweet, but enjoyable. Hops are mostly imperceptible. Roastiness follows through again in the finish. Finally, the aroma starts to unfurl with deeo melanoidins, though never quite reaching that malt ball character. Hop bitterness also rolls through at the end. Alcohol is incredibly well-masked. Superb. Marsiblursi (1634), Göteborg, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Updated: Jun 8, 2009(Bottle) Pours clear deep dark amber with a pale sand coloured head. The aroma is medium hoppy and light to medium malty with a touch of shoe polish-like alcohol in the background. The hops brings notes of dry peach, black tea, earth and flowers alongside bright overtones of grapefruit, sour orange, lemon and lime. Also light vegetal, herbal and light spicy. Dried apricots and prunes are present with a hint of English fruitcake. A whisper of dry caramel, toffee and salt liquorice. Light oxidized with notes of wet paper. The flavour is medium bitter, light to medium sweet and light acidic. Tones of melon, apricot, oranges, apples, sweet grapefruit, sweet black tea, earth, light spices/herbs/grass, bread, caramel, toffee, honey alcohol and salty hops. The mouthfeel is creamy and round with a near medium carbonation. The aftertaste is grapefruity with hints of caramel and tropical fruits. Medium bodied.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Bottle, 22oz. Shared by tarjei. It pours a clear, dark golden body under a finger-thick, creamy, beige head. Resiny, beef-stocky nose, feeling a bit weak, but that might be due to the previous two beers. Resiny, slightly citrusy flavor with malts enough to support it. Some beef-stock too. Medium body, rather dry for a beer this sweet. Quite intense bitterness in the finish. Not sure about this one, a bit too intensely bitter maybe, and surprisingly dry, but wouldn’t shy away from having it again. (090805) merlin48 (511), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2009 Pricey stuff here($15 a bottle in Knoxville) but bottle is so heavy you can use it as a doorstop or catbeller when empty. The 750 pours a slightly hazed orange amber, almost copper body with a lavish almond hued head. Sticky lacing. Aroma of Cascades hops pine opens, followed by melted caramel and a hint of grapefruit. Taste follows suit, with a creamy feel and excellent balance. American hops fit snugly into the caramel malt bill here, and the alcohol is sneakily concealed. An excellent product from Rogue here.
