Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of nutty, caramel and milk chocolate, moderate herbs for the hops, light earth for the yeast with notes of date, brown sugar and nutmeg. Head is creamy, slightly off-white with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear copper with a thin stream of fine bubbles. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is lightly acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has a soft carbonation. Nice complex aromas but a slightly out of balance flavor. Still a well crafted American Strong.

Pours a hazy amber with thin white head. Aroma of caramel, some citrus, and sticky hops. The flavor opens with roasted malt, caramel, a metally, rusty flavor, and a hop balance at the end that lasts nicely. The finish does last and last. This would be nice along with a bowl of chili on a cold day.

Bottle@LCRBM08. Aroma has some floral hops, some malts. Slightly hazy, orange coloured with a good firm off-white head. Taste is bitter, has some caramel, some hops, bit earthy. Not really impressive.

This reddish amber beer poured into a trappist glass with a decent beige head and a floral malt aroma. There is a significant malt presence producing a toffee flavor, but there is some serious hopping that complements but, perhaps, overwhelms the malt, leaving an astringent taste on the palate.

What a freakin’ cool bottle! This massive beer poured copper and large-headed. The aroma is tangy, metallic. Despite the bigness of the beer, this is a smooth drinker, silky even, with a hint of bitter apple, but otherwise a very even-keeled malty brew. (#3468, 11/2008)

On tap at Novare Res. I’m not a huge fan of the regular dead guy...it’s kind of ketchup like. This stuff however is MUCH better. The D2 is a malt masterpiece. Toffee, caramel, and everything I expected the dead guy to be.
