Pours to a deep amber with a good sized head. Aroma is sweet, with notes of clove, vanilla, butter and figs.
Tastes initially of, as the tasting notes suggest, a nice orange blossom tea, followed by the dark fruits of the aroma. Its certainly a bigger beer, and while effervescent, theres a lingering presence of alcohol that evens out to a clean, malty finish.
Very balanced -- a pretty solid beer all the way through. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2008 22 oz. bottle provided by and shared with CelticBrew. Clear burnt orange with a medium white head. Aroma is spicy with hints of dark caramel, and figs, and dates. Smooth mouthfeel matches well with the medium body. Malty sweetness persists, with a delayed, lightly bitter finish eventually coming through. Drinkable, enjoyable. MrRain (427), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2008 750ml bottle poured into a Trappist glass. RDDGA pours murky and tangerine-colored with a small rocky head that leaves small, soapy lacing. The aroma is subtle and slightly sweet with a barley wine type character. Sweet fruits such as peaches or cantelope predominate. A hint of alcohol causes the stomach acids to start rumbling. The flavor is much more bitter than I expected. The hops did not make much of an appearance in the aroma but show up nice and strong in the flavor. The rest of the taste palette is quite mild and includes tangerine, honey and even a touch of caramel. This beer is medium-bodied with a slightly flat finish. kwoeltje (1315), Manchester, Missouri, USA

Aroma of malt, caramel, and a little hops. Taste of malt, hops, and alcohol. This medium bodied brew is not bad and I think better than the original.
