Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Hazy dark amber pour with big, firm, off-white head and good lacing. Nose is full of malt, toffee, caramel, hops. Flavor was rich and complex. Big malt profile with caramel and toffee sweetness that was tamed by an aggressive amount of hops to provide a complementing bitterness. Full bodied, rich and a chewy texture. This is one beauty of a beer that just keeps getting better as it warms a bit. Rogue has created a monster of a Dead Guy. A must try!

Pours a deep orange into the glass, with an eggshell head that reduces to a thin cap and leaves soapy lace. Some caramel and Crystal malt to the nose. The flavors are not "in your face" at all, with some caramel malt, esters, and some peppering, nutty hops. The finish lingers with a tad of sweet caramel and bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium, lightly chewy, with decent carbonation levels and a touch of alcohol for peppering the back-palate. All-in-all, this is extremely reminiscent of a higher ABV "Dead Guy", just not quite as dry. Not bad, but certainly not the best ASA in its class.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with dirty martini. Pours a hazy orange amber with a moderately large linen white head that lasted to the end of the glass and left a layer of foam with each sip. Pleasant albeit a bit mild aroma of oranges, grapefruit and just a bit of malt. Flavor is mild malt up front followed by some orange and grapefruit. The fruit flavors are a bit mild as well. Medium-strong bitterness at the finish. Surprisingly bitter relative to the amount of flavor imparted by the hops. Overall not a bad beer, I just was expecting something a bit more flavorful.

This beer poured an absolutely stunning copper color with a buttery yellow head. Simply beautiful. Aroma was hops and a bit of dustiness. Flavor was a little hoppy, but with some nice malt characteristics as well. There was more of that strange dustiness in the back end, but this was a nice beer.

Picked up at Bottleworks in Seattle only to find it locally a week later. Pours clear copper with two inch tan head. The aroma is moderate with solid hop notes of grapefruit and sweet malt enhanced orange and tangelo, some spicy hops and a bit of caramel malts. After a few tries this beer has grown on me. The taste if full with lightly roasted malts, sweeter malts mixing with grapefruit, orange and spice hops. By midway a medium roasted malt note grows and just manages to outshine the other hoppy flavor components. It gets just a bit caramelly into the after taste. Good stuff from Rogue but like the other similar releases the price hardly justifies another purchase.

26 oz. bottle - Poured pale amber with nice medium head, great lacing on glass. First off I am a huge fan of Dead Guy and when I saw DDG I did not hesitate. Aroma is sweet like cotton candy, similar to DG but sweeter. Taste is so smooth and well balanced. I thought I died and gone to beer heaven. Rogue is my favorite brewer and DDG is their finest creation !!!!

Sampled with the Minnesota team. Pours a semi-clear orange amber brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates to a white ring. Aroma of citrus zest, some biscuit/multi-grain malt, and some alcohol. Taste is medium to full bodied, plenty of carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, citrus zest with grapefruit, a touch of iced tea and grassy hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a high alcohol warmth and slow disappearing citrus aftertaste.
