biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Oct 31, 2008 I enjoyed this delicious brew two nights ago, while watching the Phils clinch their first World Series since 1980. For that reason, I enjoyed the heck out of this brew. PHILS = CHAMPS radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Oct 31, 2008 750 ml Bottle. Wow, an extremely powerful version of their regular Dead Guy Ale. Pours very similarly to Dead Guy Ale, an almost crimson amber color with a nice white head. Aroma of malts, notes of hops. Flavor is alcohol sweetness. This beer has made me want to re-experience how the regular Dead Guy is. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Oct 30, 2008 Pours identical to regular DG, deep amber with a 1/2 inch head. Aroma is sweet like DG, but has a touch more alcohol. Flavor is still true to a maibock, but with a little more alcohol and quite a bit more hop. Very good beer. kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2008 On tap at Mad Mex near Pitt. Beyond a strong ale. Certainly huge hops but big malt and sweetness, port and fruit flavors and though really big the alcohol is not prevalent. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 29, 2008 Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium to dark amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, cereal), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, apricot), with a light note of alcohol.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Pretty dull. Not much going on in the nose, and the malt character seems a bit crude (soggy corn flakes). Mouth experience isn’t much better. Ober (1165), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Oct 29, 2008 Bottle@LCRBM 2008. A clear red/brown colored beer, with a nice white head. The aroma of hops with caramel and some dark fruits.
The taste of American hops with a little roasted malts and dark fruits like raisins. The aftertaste is dry and nice bitter. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Oct 28, 2008 Bottle @ LCRBM 08: Poured a orange copper color with a off white head. The aroma is hops and malts. Taste is malts and hoppy. masonjer (562), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 28, 2008 Poured amber brown into the glass. Aroma was caramel and piney hops. Taste was much the same, nice bitterness throughout, as well as orange and sweet malt. But all the pieces never quite came together. Fairly straightforward american strong, but never quite came together for me.
