Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

750 mL. Plus 1.5 pts just for the kick-ass bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thin, off-white head. Nose is sweet with dark fruits, toffee, and caramel. Medium palate. Lots of toffee, caramel, crystal malt, and some orange peel. I’m missing that buttery toast taste from normal Dead Guy Ale...boo... Nice hop finish. Solid but not what I was expecting. This is a totally different beer rather than a Dead Guy times two.

Sweet pineapple cake aroma with some dried fruits. Orange and amber hues with an off white head. Flavors of sweet malt and a bitter hoppy finish, some saltiness. Some parmesean cheese, bread crust, orange peel and other flavors. Palate is rich enough with a good duration. Pretty good.

750 ml bottle. Amber pour with a thin, off white head. Good bit of lacing present. Aroma was a pleasant surprise. Sweet caramel malts, dark pitted fruits, toffee. Flavor is heavily malty. Just the slightest bit of hop bitterness. Warming alcohol at the finish to compliment the sweet sticky notes.

750 ml bottle has got to be one of the best I’ve seen. Wish the contents were up to the challenge, though. Pours an orangish/reddish copper with a big and fizzy tan head. Aromas are sweet caramel with a touch of pine and grass and a hint of oranges. Flavor is very sweet and malty... has a lot of caramel, a touch of orange and grassy hops and an overwhelming alcohol presence that creates warmth and buries some of the flavors. Still, it is a pretty cool bottle.

Pours a nice dark honey-golden, clear with fine bubbles, and a very thick off-white and fairly persistent head. Aroma is strong and malty with undertones of caramel and hops. Flavor is surprisingly hoppy, with a good balance of maltiness and a sweet undertone - there is a fair amount of bitterness, but it is not overwhelming. Texture is smooth and edgy and very pleasing. Overall, another winner from Rogue.

Pours a crystal clear amber with a small beige head that lingers for a little while as a thin cap leaving traces of lacing around the sides. The aroma is sweet caramel malts and a bit of dark fruit and a slight toasted character as well. There are a bit of hops in the background but nothing really noticeable. The taste is much more toasted than the aroma and the toasted malts dominate the taste throughout. There are definitely some dark fruits in there as well as some citrus hops that tingle the tongue slightly in the finish., The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation that accentuates the tingly feeling on the palate. As an amped up version of Dead Guy, it’s a good beer.

Poured a a nice amber/orangish color with a big off white head. Aroma was really mlaty, some spices and hints of alcohol as well. Flavor was really sweet and smooth, nice hints of spices and fruits, but nothing sticks out too well, but decent beer nonetheless.

Hazy amber color. It’ s a strong American Ale, with better flavor than aroma, powerful but not extremely interesting.
