Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Cool bottle! Pours a clear dirty orange with a thick light tan head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of doughy bread and soda. Flavor of sweet malt, bread, light fruits (apple). Doesn’t taste very hoppy like I would expect from an ASA, mostly it’s just lots of malt. Alright though.

Bottle. Aroma super rich and super malty with that toffee and caramel, also some sugary candy. Flavor quickly becomes somewhat cloying with that sugary candy. Still has a bunch of all that malty goodness, but it just gets out of wack. Sad, really. Had so much potential.

dead translucent copper body, dark orange highlight, thick and sparkling tan head; clean--sweet for one second, then quickly bittersweet, with reminiscence of rye and light citrus, ending semi-dry; chewy, but smooth; good.

Cool bottle. Kinda’ pricey. Nice amber-red color with a nice head to boot. Really enjoyed the palate (chewy and full of texture, yet not too heavy and/or syrupy). Complex malts took the stage (over the hops) by a small margin, and they offered notes of dark dough, multigrain bread, peanut shells, toffee, chocolate and a hint of black coffee. Hops were also nice, as they were full of fresh-cut grass, earthy herbs and dried flowers, along with some bitterness to round things out. Alcohol didn’t seem sharp at all. Enjoyable, tasty beer.

Clear dark amber, with an enormous off-white head and fantastic lacing. Nose of sweet caramel malts and PNW hops. Taste matches the nose ... hops, malts, sweet caramel, almost in balance, but with a huge hoppy finish. Maybe subtract half a point for the over-the-top alcohol? A lovely beer, even if not exactly a session beer!

Bottle. Pours clear brown with a large, frothy, light brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, bread, nutty), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of apple, pear, and honey. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - painted red 750 ml bottle. Nice medium copper pour with a soft white head that sticks around quite a while. Fresh, sprucey aroma with some hints of ripening vegetables. Flavor is full bodied and full of caramel, toffee, grapefruity citrus and a hint of vegetable funkiness. Mouthfeel is a little on the stinging side - but can be expected with the high abv and over the top hops.
