Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - painted red 750 ml bottle. Nice medium copper pour with a soft white head that sticks around quite a while. Fresh, sprucey aroma with some hints of ripening vegetables. Flavor is full bodied and full of caramel, toffee, grapefruity citrus and a hint of vegetable funkiness. Mouthfeel is a little on the stinging side - but can be expected with the high abv and over the top hops.

Crushed with Jakebra. Huuuuge head on this one. Some hops on the nose, but a huge bitter hop profile in the finish makes it awesome.

750 mL bottle courtesy of kiefdog. Pours a brownish amber with a soapy off-white head. The aroma is one of sugary sweet malt and a strange sweet aroma of something like freshly-cooked corn(?). Interesting, The hops are noticeable, but somewhat muted. Grassy, earthy, almost pilsner-like bitterness after mid-swallow. Some caramel, but the hops take what spotlight there is. Not wonderful, but ok.

On tap at the Blind Tiger from Dark and cloudy amber. Aroma is mild malts and pine. Flavor is strong caramel and toffee that sticks around forever. Thick and heavy, double dead guy lets you know that you are drinking it.

Deep amber pour with a foamy head that lasts. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus hops and some light fruit. Flavor is big and malty. The hops are not quite enough to balance, although it doesn’t get too sweet. Nice spicy hop finish. Above average, but not great.

Bottle. Rusty amber pour with only a small ring of foam on the surface. Nose is spicy hops, floral notes, caramel, and chewy malts. Light fruit notes as well. Taste is more spicy hops, citrus fruits, floral notes, caramel and chewy malts. None of the 9.5% ABV to be found. Body is medium-full and rather chewy. Slight warmth to this despite the lack of obvious alcohol. Finishes with more spicy hops, toffee, chewy malts, caramel, and floral notes. Nice!

Sample at WBF in Durham. Thank god I didn’t have to pay the big bucks just to try this one (though it was pretty tasty... just not worth paying extra for the fancy bottle, etc.). Clear reddish amber pour with off-white head. Caramel malt and lightly barley flavor. Hoppy, but not dominantly so. Pretty much what you’d expect if you’re familiar with Dead Guy, just more so... but thankfully non-cloying and the alcohol was well hidden.
