IHABrew (3), , New Jersey, USA does not count Oct 5, 2008 The beer looks good when poured - deep orange and red hues with an off white head. The alcohol is apparent in the aroma and it covers up the other flavors. When tasting, the alcohol is not as apparent, but I found that the malt, hops and alcohol all seemed to cancel each other out and resulted in no particular flavor winning out. DaSilky1 (1933), San Diego, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 Crystal amber with lace-inducing frothy like a sea wave - head. Nose of caramelized brown sugar, wilted flowers, and spiced coffee cake. Flavors like oldspice sprayed hops slipping to bitter throat rubs. Burnt sugar, unripe citrus rind and a smidgen of subtle tangerine. Alcoholic afterthoughts with just a touch of caramelized sweetness behind. beermaster1 (6), , Nevada, USA does not count Oct 4, 2008 750 ml. bottle you would think that by the name .... they would double the malt, but no....dead guy is far more maltier & CREAMY, than X2 which actually has some decant hop content... the problem is the malt "BACKBONE" dosn’t balance it out. henceforth i will only be a dead guy from now on Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Oct 4, 2008 Dull amber brown with a big, rocky head. Smells a little big metallic, caramelly. Firm body. Caramelly/earthy taste, tasty and subtlely complex malts, and I like the dry, alcoholic finish. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 bottle. Poured dark amber, topped with a moderate-sized tan head. Aroma of yeast, hops, toffee, grain and some vegetal character. Aroma was unmistakably Rogue. Flavor of caramel, earthy hops, yeast, and grain. Moderately bitter finish. It’s not bad, but the pricey bottle will likely keep me from ever trying it again. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Oct 4, 2008 Draft at blind tiger. Pretty good but to tell you the truth I was in the bag and it tasted a lot like regular dead guy. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 750 ml ceramic bottle purchased at Beverages for Less in Santee. Very tasty. I liked the malt, toffee, and caramel. The hops were present but not to overpowering. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 4, 2008 (Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 26 Sep 2008) Dark amber colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit and orange peel, slightly vinous. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, caramel and a decent spicy bitterness in the finish. Full bodied, rather sweet and vinous with warming alcohol coming through as it gets warmer. Nice balance. Powerful and tasty beer.
