Bottle. Clear amber. Large rocky head, lovely lacing. Surprisingly fruity nose. Alcohol is detectable there. Solid and quaffable mouthfeel. Firm body. Good, straightforward balance with alcohol sweetness wiping the palate clean. Nice brew!

Bottle (2008) from BevMo, La Mesa. Listed @ 9%. Deep amber in color. Sticky sweet malty aroma. A hint of hoppiness. Sweet maltiness up front. Strong grapefruit hop kick. Lots of bitterness in the finish. Pretty thick in the mouthfeel department. Solid brew.

Orange-copper pour with a big, lasting frothy, off-white head. The aroma is English toffee, orange, grapefruit, almond, honey, and some floral hopiness. Lots of sweet, chewy, nutty malt flavor hits the tongue first with a crisp dry finish that is an equal balance of citrus and pine. Medium body with lots of soft carbonation. This a great, balanced strong ale.

(bottle) Clear red-amber body and a thin, wispy beige head. The aroma is sweet with lots of malt, caramel, some hops, some grapefruit, and a hint of spice. Somehow feels both full-bodied and quite light in the mouth; oily. Flavor has dark roasted malt, caramel, smoke, and some coffee, too. The long finish is quite bitter and a good amount of alcohol.

Cool eye-catching bottle. Pours amber brown with a dense almond coloured head. Rich toffee malt and fruity bitter hop aroma. Big chewy palate of the same. In short, what I have come to expect from Rogue, which is to say very good quality and no skimping on the ingredients. If there is any criticism, it is that this doesn’t retain any especially "bockiness" reminiscent of the original Dead Guy, but who cares? It’s tasty!

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear dark brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex caramel malt and spruce aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

2008 bottle. Pours a sparkling clear, amber with an average, off-white, creamy head; longevity is good and lace is minimal. Nose is somewhat boring; lots of toffee and toasted biscuits, faint raisins, and faint nuttiness. Flavor is similar with lots of caramel, some nuttiness, light toasted notes, and faint citrus with some sharp, herbal bitterness leading into the finish. Palate is medium, lively, oily, and lightly lightly chewy. Finish is harsh with the undesirable herbal notes lingering for a while with the nice sweet notes leaving. Somewhat offputting by the finish and not at all what I was expecting from a double maibock. The ale yeast just ruined what could be a decent heller doppel. I actually prefer the Dead Guy.

From Peadbody’s in Boone, Pretty darn delicious! Pours a hazy orange color with a white foamy head. Tastes a bit hoppy with a good taste of citrues and creamy finish. Smells of a good balance of hops and malts. Muy Buen!
